This dataset contains biological and chemical data collected on RVIB Nathaniel B. Palmer, USCGC Polar Star, and Unknown Vessel during cruises IVARS_cruises, NBP0601A, and Ross_Sea_2001-2006_Smith from 2001-12-19 to 2006-02-01. These data include Ammonium, Nitrite, SiOH_4, chlorophyll a, depth, nitrate plus nitrite, particulate organic Carbon (POC), particulate organic nitrogen, and reactive phosphorus (PO4). The instruments used to collect these data include CTD profiler. These data were collected by Walker O. Smith of Virginia Institute of Marine Science as part of the "Interannual Variability in the Antarctic-Ross Sea (IVARS): Nutrients and Seasonal Production (IVARS)" project. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2021-01-28.

Dataset Description:
Acquisition Description:
All methods were standard JGOFS procedures (nutrients, particulate matter concentrations). Nutrient samples were frozen and returned to the US for analyses; chlorophyll determinations were completed at sea using fluorometry. Particulate organic carbon/nitrogen samples were filtered, dried at 60C, and returned to the US for analysis on an elemental analyzer. Complete details can be found in Smith et al. (2006, 2011a,b).
