Facial feature prioritization by forensic specialists

This dataset contains behavioral data from 27 facial identification specialists over 24 experimental trials. In each trial, participants were presented with two face images of different identities and a third, initially occluded image matching the identity of one of the two images. Participants revealed facial features one by one on the occluded image until a matching decision could be made. A points system penalized both incorrect guesses and revealing more than one feature to encourage parsimonious revealing. These data were used to investigate facial feature use strategies among specialists and the relationship between specific feature use and identification accuracy.
