Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS) Level-2 Orbital Precipitation and Surface Products

The Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS) provides an end-to-end capability of calibrating and characterizing the radiances measured from satellite-based microwave instruments using state of the art algorithm science. The MIRS produces advanced near-real-time operational surface and precipitation products in all-weather and over all-surface conditions using brightness temperatures from multiple microwave instruments. The MIRS Level-2 precipitation and surface products are derived from Level 1B data acquired by the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-A (AMSU-A) and the Microwave Humidity Sounder (MHS) instruments onboard MetOp-C. The precipitation and surface products include Total Precipitable Water, Snow Water Equivalent, Cloud Liquid Water, Rainfall Rate, Snow Fall Rate, and Sea Ice Concentration at a default resolution of 16 km. The data are produced by the NOAA Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) and are distributed by the Comprehensive Large Array-Data Stewardship System (CLASS) as 85 minute files in the netCDF-4 file format with attributes included.
