The Clouds and the Earth's Radiant Energy System (CERES) onboard the Suomi-NPP measure both solar-reflected and Earth-emitted radiation from the top of the atmosphere to the Earth's surface. The measurements obtained from CERES are used to observe and understand the role of clouds and the energy cycle in global climate monitoring and prediction.
