NOAA JPSS Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Radiance Cluster Data from NCCF

The VIIRS Radiance Cluster (VRC) product provides radiance values for the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) instrument. The values are obtained using a cluster analysis which is applied to collocated VIIRS pixels within the CrIS FOV (Field of View). The cluster analysis is a statistical technique that groups together data points based on their features or variables. The cluster analysis results are then mapped into each CrIS FOV. The final output includes the mean, standard deviation, and coverage for each cluster. A cluster analysis is performed for each VIIRS band within each CrIS FOV. The output clusters provide sub-pixel scene characterization of CRIS FOVs, which support Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) model data assimilation. This Level-1 dataset is produced by the NOAA Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) and is distributed by the Comprehensive Large Array-Data Stewardship System (CLASS) as aggregated 8.5 minute TAR files consisting of ~ 19 (26 second) granules in the NetCDF file format with metadata attributes included.
