The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory developed Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) spectroscopic experiments flown on the NASA Skylab manned space station to study the Sun’s chromosphere, transition region and inner corona. The data include measurements of spectra from specific solar activity regions on photographic film taken by the S082A Spectroheliograph and the S082B Spectrograph instruments that were part of the Apollo Telescope Mount (ATM) Experiments aboard Skylab during three mission periods in 1973 and 1974. The original analog film data, housed at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, was comprised of 35 mm film strips mounted between glass plates. The entire collection consisted of 800 plates with eight spectra per plate. The individual spectra were scanned to a 24-bit (three color) resolution TIFF image before being submitted to the NOAA National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) in December 2007. Documentation for each spectrum derived from 16 data books were also scanned and provided as PDFs.
