The Standard/Legacy MSHR, formally identified as the DSI-9767 dataset, is the legacy dataset/report sorted by NCDC Station ID and period of record. This dataset/report includes historical station changes in reported fields generating multiple records for a station where a new record is created for every period in which a reported component for a station is changed. This dataset is continued to be produced to support legacy processing systems.

Surface Prognostic Charts are historical surface prognostic (forecast) charts created by the United States Weather Bureau. They include fronts, isobars, cloud, and precipitation areas. There are two separate charts: one is a four-panel 12- and 24-hour, in which the upper two panels are devoted to low-level significant weather; the other, a two-panel 36- and 48-hour with discussion. The discussion is limited to about 260 abbreviated words.

This collection includes any publications or observations about river forecasts within the United States. This includes forecasts for river flooding, water level, and forecast locations. In addition, a historical publication is available that describes in detail the river forecast and warning services as well as other hydrological services provided by the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS), including information highest stages at NWS gauges and at locations prior to gauge records, and a list of points for which water supply forecasts are issued during the Period of Record (1873-1980).

The Precipitation Frequency of the Western United States publication is an eleven volume set held in the archives. It was the culmination of many years of investigation and was based all of the previous work on precipitation- frequency studies until that time. It also replaced U.S. Weather Bureau Technical Paper No. 40 for the eleven western states. The states/volumes are: 1 Montana 2 Wyoming 3 Colorado 4 New Mexico 5 Idaho 6 Utah 7 Nevada 8 Arizona 9 Washington 10 Oregon 11 California Each volume is organized into three parts.

The Primary source of data used to produce these files were from vessels of the following cooperatives: Cuba, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany (Federal Republic of Germany), Iceland, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia, United Kingdom, U.S.S.R., Yugoslavia, Canada and the United States. Other countries were added later. The purpose of these cooperative ships were to take Meteorological Observations.

WDCA Chernobyl Data consists of digital data set DSI-9681, archived at the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). World Data Center for Meteorology (WDC-A), located in Asheville, North Carolina, is a meteorological data center in a worldwide network of data centers for the various sciences established to promote international exchange of scientific data. This particular dataset consists of meteorological data from the April 1986 disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Ukraine. Upper air observations may include: winds, dew points, and temperatures.

USCRN Raw Transmitted Data is level 0 data received from the USCRN stations that are transmitted continuously. The data values are ingested with a unique 18-bit format due to satellite transmission limitations (documentation will be archived along with data); code is also included to read the bit format and parse out values for a stream. As of 2017, there are 26 possible stream format versions over the history of the USCRN network; format versions are dependent on hardware/software upgrades to the USCRN network and may increase over time.

U.S. Daily Surface Data consists of several closely related data sets: DSI-3200, DSI-3202, DSI-3206, and DSI-3210. These are archived at the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). U.S. Daily Surface Data is sometimes called cooperative data or COOP, named after the cooperative observers that recorded the data. In any one year there are about 8,000 stations operating. Most cooperative observers are state universities, state or federal agencies, or private individuals whose stations are managed and maintained by the National Weather Service.

Datalogger files are raw USCRN data. However, instead of being collected via satellite, the raw data are collected from station dataloggers (also referred to as PDAs--Personal Digital Assistant) in the field during site maintenance visits by NOAA/ATDD engineers. These data are uploaded to a site at Oak Ridge National Lab from where they are pulled by NCEI. These raw data are received as CSV formatted files--detailed documentation are required to read the data and will be provided to ingest. These files may not be available until months after the included observations are made.

The NOAA Monthly U.S. Climate Gridded Dataset (NClimGrid) consists of four climate variables derived from the GHCN-D dataset: maximum temperature, minimum temperature, average temperature and precipitation. Each file provides monthly values in a 5x5 lat/lon grid for the Continental United States. Data is available from 1895 to the present. On an annual basis, approximately one year of "final" nClimGrid will be submitted to replace the initially supplied "preliminary" data for the same time period.
