AL-USRCRN Photo Information

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Photos of Alabama USRCRN stations and their immediate surroundings. Taken by engineering techs from NOAA's Atmospheric Turbulence and Diffusion Division (ATDD). Photos are used to ensure station environment does not significantly change.

River Forecasts

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This collection includes any publications or observations about river forecasts within the United States. This includes forecasts for river flooding, water level, and forecast locations. In addition, a historical publication is available that describes in detail the river forecast and warning services as well as other hydrological services provided by the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS), including information highest stages at NWS gauges and at locations prior to gauge records, and a list of points for which water supply forecasts are issued during the Period of Record (1873-1980).

World Weather Records

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

World Weather Records (WWR) is an archived publication and digital data set. WWR is meteorological data from locations around the world. Through most of its history, WWR has been a publication, first published in 1927. Data includes monthly mean values of pressure, temperature, precipitation, and where available, station metadata notes documenting observation practices and station configurations. In recent years, data were supplied by National Meteorological Services of various countries, many of which became members of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

Foreign Data Library

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Foreign Data Library consists of meteorological data from nations other than the United States. The data are on original observational forms, in publications, atlases, ships' logs, periodicals, charts, etc. Split almost evenly between paper and microfilm, , this data is collectively referred to as the Foreign Data Library. Types of data includes summaries, observations, overviews, and summaries of global climate. The vast majority of the records fall between the late 19th century and late 20th century.

Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) Level 2 Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI), is a hyperspectral infrared sounder residing on the European Space Agency's (ESA) MetOp series of polar orbiting satellites. The main goal is to provide atmospheric emission spectra to derive temperature and humidity profiles with high vertical resolution and accuracy. It is a Michelson interferometer with spectral coverage between 3.6 and 15.5 micrometers. At nadir, the instrument samples data at intervals of 25 km along and a cross track, each sample having a maximum diameter of about 12 km.

NOAA JPSS Clouds and the Earth's Radiant Energy System (CERES) Raw Data Record (RDR) from IDPS

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Clouds and the Earth's Radiant Energy System (CERES) onboard the Suomi-NPP measure both solar-reflected and Earth-emitted radiation from the top of the atmosphere to the Earth's surface. The measurements obtained from CERES are used to observe and understand the role of clouds and the energy cycle in global climate monitoring and prediction. This metadata record encompasses all CERES Raw Data Records (RDRs), which include science, diagnostic and telemetry RDRs.

Radar Weather Observation

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Radar Weather Observation is a set of archived historical manuscripts stored on microfiche. The primary source of these radar weather observations manuscript records was approximately 110 National Weather Service (NWS) radar stations. The records were placed on microfiche monthly or annually, depending on the radar station. In addition, the years these records are available vary from station to station. There were approximately 59 NWS radar observing stations equipped with weather surveillance radar which made photographs of the plan position indicator (PPI) scope on 16-mm or 35-mm film.

Regional Snowfall Index (RSI)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Regional Snowfall Index (RSI) is an index of significant snowstorms that impact the eastern two thirds of the U.S. The RSI ranks snowstorm impacts on a scale from 1 to 5, similar to the Fujita scale for tornadoes or the Saffir-Simpson scale for hurricanes. NCEI has analyzed and assigned RSI values to over 500 storms going as far back as 1900. New storms are added operationally. As such, RSI puts the regional impacts of snowstorms into a century-scale historical perspective. The RSI differs from other indices because it includes population.

Dutch Logbooks

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Nineteenth century ship logbooks imaged by KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute) in 2006 as part of the RECLAIM (RECovery of Logbooks and International Marine data). The data were keyed by the Climate Database Modernization Program and added to the ICOADS dataset. Period of record is 1826-1855. Records are in Dutch.

Global Marine Observations in 10-degree Bins derived from the International Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set (ICOADS)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Global Marine Observations in 10-degree bins are reformatted data from the International Comprehensive Ocean Atmosphere Data Set (ICOADS). ICOADS consists of digital data archived at the National Center for Environmental Information (NCEI). ICOADS is the world's largest collection of marine surface in situ observations with 500+ million unique records from 1662-present. The coverage is global and sampling density varies depending on date and position relative to major ocean shipping routes.
