Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Northeastern Gulf of Mexico Physical Oceanography Program (NEGOM) is supported by the Minerals Management Service (MMS) of the U.S. Department of the Interior. Through a contract between MMS and the Texas A&M Research Foundation, several components of the Texas A&M University System are conducting the Chemical Oceanography and Hydrography study of NEGOM (NEGOM-COH). This report covers activities from October 1997 through June 1998.

Barograms / Barograph Charts

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Barograms are weekly rectangular charts recording barometric pressure at a given station. The barograph is an instrument that makes a continuous pen and ink trace of the changing atmospheric pressure on a chart. The barograph chart is also called a barogram. There were also measurements made using other types of barometers, and recorded on paper forms. Pressures were in millibars or inches of mercury. Many of these barograms and forms were provided to the archive by U.S. agencies: National Weather Service (NWS), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), U.S.

Daily Weather Maps

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Several different government offices have published the Daily weather maps over its history. The publication has also gone by different names over time. The U.S. Signal Office began publication of the maps as the War Department maps on Jan. 1, 1871. When the government transferred control of the weather service to the newly-created Weather Bureau in 1891 the title changed to the Department of Agriculture weather map. In 1913 the title became simply Daily weather map.

Thermographs

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Thermograph data collection consists primary of weekly circular charts recording continuous temperature at a given station. The collection also includes hygrothermographs, which are long rectangular charts which also capture humidity on the same chart. There are hundreds of thousands of thermograph charts in physical media. The online collection only contains a subset of this massive collection. The bulk of the records spans the entire 20th century, although there are records that fall outside this time period.

Northern Hemisphere Synoptic Weather Maps

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Daily Series of Synoptic Weather Maps. Part I consists of plotted and analyzed daily maps of sea-level and 500-mb maps for 0300, 0400, 1200, 1230, 1300, and 1500 GMT. It was published from January 1899 through June 1971. Each volume of the series contains one sea level map and one 500-millibar map for each day of the month. The 500-millibar charts began with the December 1944 issue. Part II Northern Hemisphere data tabulations contain daily synoptic surface and upper air reports. Sea Level data are presented in two sections; one for land reports and one for marine reports.

Geodetic Survey Water Level Observations

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Over one million images of National Coast & Geodetic Survey (now NOAA's National Geodetic Survey/NGS) forms captured from microfiche. Tabular forms and charts document tidal means and extremes, benchmarks, tabulations and compared readings. Period of record is 1822-1994. Scanned under the Climate Database Modernization Program.
