Pilot Weather Reports

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Aviation weather reports relayed from pilots to FAA air traffic controllers or National Weather Service personnel. Elements include sky cover, turbulence, wind direction, icing. Altitude and location in relation to the airport are also recorded.

US Air Force Balloon Observations

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Worksheets containing pilot balloon data computed from releases at Air Force stations in the western United States. Elevation and azimuth angles are used to compute wind direction and speed. The period of record is brief: 1999-2001. Much more pilot balloon data can be found in the U.S. Daily and Monthly Pibals libraries.

US Monthly Pilot Balloon Observations

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Monthly winds aloft summary forms summarizing Pilot Balloon observational data for the United States. Generally labeled as Form 1114, and then transitioning to Form 22 in the mid-late 1940s. Taken by Weather Bureau and U.S. Army observers. Period of record 1918-1960. Records scanned from the NCDC microfilm collection

AL-USRCRN Station Information

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Documentation of United States Alabama Regional Climate Reference Network (AL-USRCRN) installations in 2006. Installations documented are for AL-USRCRN pilot project stations in Alabama. These stations were designed to provide the same level of climate science quality measurements as the national-scale U.S. Climate Reference Network (USCRN), but are spaced more closely, and focus solely on temperature and precipitation. Alabama USRCRN stations are deployed at a 130 km spatial resolution to provide for the detection of regional climate change signals.

USRCRN Photo Information

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Photos of USRCRN stations and their immediate surroundings. Taken by engineering techs from NOAA's Atmospheric Turbulence and Diffusion Division (ATDD). Photos are used to ensure station environment does not significantly change.

GSN Photo Metadata

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

GSN Photo Metadata contains photographs of Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) Surface Network (GSN) stations that have been submitted to the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) by GCOS Focal Points, the latter designated by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). This cabinet supports the metadata efforts between the NCDC and the WMO in visually documenting the metadata of GSN stations' instrumentation and the nearby topography.
