SOUND VELOCITY and Other Data from USS HAYLER from 1993-10-10 to 1993-10-30 (NCEI Accession 9400025)
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
The sound velocity data in this accession were collected from USS HAYLER in between October 10, 1993 and October 30, 1993. The sound velocity in water is analog profiles data that was recorded in stripcharts by US Navy. Radio logs are forms that contain time, weather latitude/longitude, vessel id, ship id, etc. These are radioed every two hours to some military center. One line per strip chart. Some strip charts have time/date/ship id/latitude/longitude annotated on the strip chart. Stripcharts and radio logs were submitted to NODC by US Navy, San Diego, CA.

Bahia Las Minas, Panama Oil Spill Assessment, 1986-1991 (NCEI Accession 9400033)
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
In April 1986 a major oil spill from a ruptured storage tank at a local refinery just east of the Caribbean entrance to the Panama Canal polluted an area of coral reefs, mangrove forests, and grassbeds along the Caribbean coast of the Republic of Panama. The area affected included a biological reserve of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) where baseline biological and environmental data had been collected for the previous 15 years.
