Oceanographic data and information collected during the EX1703 Howland/Baker PRIMNM and PIPA (ROV/Mapping) expedition on NOAA Ship OKEANOS EXPLORER in the South Pacific Ocean from 2017-03-07 to 2017-03-29 (NCEI Accession 0162616)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This dataset contains oceanographic data collected in Apia, Samoa. Operations were conducted within several marine protected areas and included the use of the ship’s deep water mapping systems (Kongsberg EM302 multibeam sonar, EK60 split-beam fisheries sonars, Knudsen 3260 chirp sub-bottom profiler sonar, and Teledyne Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers), and XBT casts in support of multibeam sonar mapping operations, OER’s 6000 m two-body ROV Deep Discoverer and Seirios, and the ship’s high-bandwidth satellite connection for continuous real-time ship-to-shore communications.

Calcification rates of crustose coralline algae (CCA) derived from Calcification Accretion Units (CAUs) deployed at coral reef sites in Batangas, Philippines in 2012 and recovered in 2015 (NCEI Accession 0162831)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Laboratory experiments reveal calcification rates of crustose coralline algae (CCA) are strongly correlated to seawater aragonite saturation state. Predictions of reduced coral calcification rates, due to ocean acidification, suggest that coral reef communities will undergo ecological phase shifts as calcifying organisms are negatively impacted by changing seawater chemistry.

CTD, Oxygen, and others collected from R/V Atlantic/ALVIN in the Gulf of Mexico from 2014-03-31 to 2014-04-21 (NCEI Accession 0162834)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Hydrographic data were collected during cruise AT2613 using a CTD-rosette system aboard R/V Atlantis. We characterized the physical and chemical properties in the water column at brine pools and the ECOGIG seep study sites. The ship departed Gulfport MS on 03/29/2014 and collected samples at a variety of brine pools and ECOGIG sites before returning to Gulfport on 04/22/2014.
