This report contains results from the fifth cruise of the Marine Optical Characterization Experiment. A variety of spectroradiometric observations of the upper water column and atmosphere were made by investigators from the University of Miami, NOAA, CHORS, CICESE, Oregon State University, University of South Florida, UABC, NERSC and MLML.

Temperature profiles were collected from XBT casts in the South Atlantic Ocean from R/V GAUSS and other platforms. Data were collected in support of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE), Gulf of Mexico NOAA/NMFS Ship of Opportunity (SOOP), and the Global Temperature-Salinity Pilot Project (GTSPP). Data were submitted by Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie and were collected from 01 January 1999 to 31 December 2001.

Moored current meter data were collected from the Bering Sea from February 2, 1999 to April 29, 1999. Data were collected by the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) as part as part of the Fisheries-Oceanography Coordinated Investigations (FOCI). Current meter parameters include East/West velocity components (U), North/South velocity component (V), current speed, current direction, salinity, pressure, conductivity, and temperature. Data are not in standard formats and are self documenting.

The marine biota of Johnston atoll was surveyed for nonindigenous species in June, 2000 with observations and collections made by investigators using Scuba. Eleven stations were surveyed, including sites at the Johnston Island pier, the north and south lagoon and the outer reef slope. Current meter and other data were collected from FIXED PLATFORMS in the NE Pacific (limit-180) from 22 June 1999 to 02 August 2001. Data were collected by the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) in support of the VENTS program. Data include east-west current components (u), north-south current components (v), current direction, temperature, and pressure. Data were obtained at multiple depths to 1480 meters.

The Minerals Management Service (MMS) program "Sediment Quality in Depositional Areas of Shelikof Strait and Outermost Cook Inlet," consisted of a two-year study whose hypotheses and objectives are explored in this report. As part of this study, a scientific crew on board the Research Vessel Alpha Helix, collected samples for biological, chemical, and toxicological analyses from the program study area during two sampling surveys. The first survey was conducted from July 7 to July 17, 1997 and the second undertaken the following year, from June 27 to July 5, 1998.

Chemical, current meter, and other data were collected using current meter, bottle, XBT, and CTD casts in the Gulf of Mexico from November 16, 1997 to August 8, 2000. Data were submitted by Texas A&M University as part of the Northeastern Gulf of Mexico Physical Oceanographic Program: Chemical Oceanography and Hydrography Study (NEGOM) project.

Physical, current, and other data were collected from FIXED PLATFORMS in the Gulf of Alaska from 31 March 2000 to 19 September 2001. Data were collected by the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) in support of the Fisheries Oceanography Coordination Investigations (FOCI) Program. Physical data include temperature, salinity, pressure, and conductivity. Current data include current direction, current speed, zonal current velocity, and meridional current velocity.

Land-Ocean Interaction Study (LOIS) investigated sediments, nutrients and contaminants from the watershed to the edge of the coastal shelf. The programme quantified and modelled fluxes of these materials and investigated how they are transformed as they move through river catchments, estuaries and coastal seas.
