The assessment of hull fouling as a mechanism for the introduction and dispersal of alien species in the main Hawaiian Islands through surveys at harbors on Oahu's Southern and Southwestern Coasts during 2003 (NCEI Accession 0001455)

Surveys for adult invertebrates that were part of the hull fouling communities were done to determine to what extent marine alien invasive species (AIS) are being transported in this fashion. The focus was to perform a qualitative analysis that created a species inventory. The organisms that generally foul vessel hulls are the typical species found in natural marine intertidal and subtidal fouling communities.

This dataset includes data from approximately 12,000 stations that J. L. Reid and A. W. Mantyla have used in various world ocean studies. These data have been accumulated for the purpose of global ocean studies and are not intended for fine scale analyses. Each station represents the best station available for that locality at the time of the selection. The set was compiled over many years and from many sources and has been brought up to date as new data have become available. Most of the data were obtained from the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC).

Growth of Tripneustes gratilla in Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, Hawaii in 2003 (NCEI Accession 0001459)

As part of a study of the possibility of using the urchin T. gratilla to control the growth of macroscopic algae on shallow reefs in Kaneohe Bay, we examined the growth rate of this urchin. We measured growth of tagged (PIT tagged) urchins at both sites where they were abundant (Sampan Channel site, Reef 13 and Reef 11) and at sites to which we introduced them (Coconut Island reef flat, Reef 22, Reef 29, Reef 19).

West Hawaii Aquarium Project (WHAP): fish and substrate data, 1999-2003 (NCEI Accession 0001467)

In response to declines in reef fishes, the Hawaii state legislature created the West Hawaii Regional Fishery Management Area in 1998 to improve fishery resources (Act 306). The West Hawaii Aquarium Project (WHAP) was funded by the Hawaii Coral Reef Initiative to monitor to fish populations and quantify the habitats in this region. This dataset consists of an MS Access relational database of all monitoring data from 1999-2003. The relational database of this dataset includes some of the data held in NODC Accession 0000938, however, it would be best to examine each accession carefully.
