This dataset includes current data collected by drifters deployed from 2003-04-14 to 2003-04-16 in the Middle Atlantic Bight continental shelf / offshore Delaware Bay. Instruments used include 3 Horizon Drifters using ARGOS system for location, 1 Brightwater Drifter using ARGOS system for location, and 1 Brightwater Drifter using GPS-ARGOS system for location.

These data were collected to support investigations of across-margin transport of biologically, geological, and chemically important materials as part of the DECADE project.

The U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) operates the Global Argo Data Repository (GADR) as the long-term archive for the International Global Argo Project (for additional information about ARGO, see https://argo.ucsd.edu/). Argo data archived by the USNODC on a weekly basis starting the second quarter of FY 2003, may include real-time and/or delayed mode profiles of ocean temperature and salinity, as well as related conductivity and/or pressure measurements (if any), collected by Argo profiling floats.

CTD and Transmissometer data from JGOFS Programs: Equatorial Pacific (EqPac), Antarctic Polar Front Zone (APFZ), North Atlantic Bloom Experiment (NABE), Arabian Sea cruise, the Hawaii Oceanographic Time-Series (HOT), and the Bermuda Atlantic Time Series (BATS). Data collected during 1990s. Data were post-processed in Texas A & M University and submitted to JGOFS archives.

This data collection includes characteristics of bottom cores collected in support of this research program to gain better knowledge of the benthic communities of the deep Gulf of Mexico, 2000 - 2001. Funding provided by USDI/MMS Contract No. 1435-01-99-CT-30991 for the US Department of the Interior, Minerals Management Service-sponsored program entitled The Deepwater Program: Northern Gulf of Mexico Continental Slope Habitat and Benthic Ecology. Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) data were collected using bottle casts in a world wide distribution. Data were collected from 02 September 1998 to 02 November 2003. Data were collected and submitted by University of Miami; Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science with support from the World Ocean Circulation Experiment.

Zooplankton data were collected using plankton net tows in the Narragansett Bay. Data were collected from 24 October 2001 to 22 October 2003 by Providence College.

Pressure/temperature/salinity profiles collected in support of a study to investigate the shallow and deep current variability in the southwest Japan/East Sea. Previous data were collected during the field experiment with a two-dimensional array of pressure-gauge equipped inverted echo sounders (PIES) and deep recording current meters (RCM) (NCEI Accession 0002331). Hourly measurements of vertical acoustic travel time, pressure, temperature and horizontal currents are provided. Additional processing has been done to provide data sets which can easily be used together as a coherent array.

This dataset contains data collected from the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration Hidden Ocean cruise in the Arctic Ocean from the USCGC Healy. Data were collected from 2005-06-26 to 2005-07-26 and include ocean profiles from XBT and CTD casts, current data from ADCPs and temperature and salinity data from the shipboard thermosalinograph. Satellite images and a digital movie taken from the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) are also included in this accession.

The dynamic and sometimes vulnerable nature of the California coastal kelp resource, critical as habitat and food for hundreds of related species, required the development of systematic methods for accurately assessing its extent and vitality. Until 1989, the California state-wide coastal kelp resource had only been sporadically mapped and analyzed since an initial state-wide visual survey conducted in 1915 (Rigg 1915).
