Data are from underwater visual surveys of fish stocks from 41 survey sites on the islands of Oahu and Hawaii, conducted by biologists and technicians of Hawaii's Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR). Survey data at Kealakekua Bay, Island of Hawaii, begin in 1952. Data begin in 1968 for all other sites. The datasets end in 2000, although updates are pending.

Kaneohe Bay received increasing amounts of sewage from the 1950s through 1977. Most sewage was diverted from the bay in 1977 and early 1978. Data were collected beginning in September 1976 and continued until June 1979. The time series was re-established in June 1982 and continued to December 2005, when it was terminated. The sampling was at 1 m depth in the south sector of Kaneohe Bay, Oahu near the old outfall that ceased in 1977. Previous NODC Accessions 0000396 (1976-1979) and 0000422 (1982-1/2001) contained monthly averages of chlorophyll a, based on weekly to bi-weekly samples.

Temperature profile data were collected using CTD casts from NOAA Ship RAINIER in the Northeast Pacific Ocean and Coastal Waters of Southeast Alaska/British Columbia from 18 March 2006 to 26 June 2006. Data were submitted by Ruby L. Becker of National Ocean Service in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Sound velocity profiles were collected using sound velocimeter in the Great Lakes and Galveston Bay from NOAA NAVIGATION RESPONSE TEAM 4 from 11 April 2006 to 04 August 2006. Data were submitted by Ruby L. Becker of National Ocean Service in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Temperature profile data were collected using CTD casts from NOAA Ship RAINIER in the vicinity of Shumagin Islands in Alaska from 27 June 2006 to 25 August 2006. Data were collected and submitted by the National Ocean Service in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Water temperature profile data were collected using Aircraft Expendable Bathythermograph (AXBT) casts in the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean during hurricane reconnaissance and research flights. Data were collected from 08 September 1997 to 23 September 2005 and submitted by Joaquin A. Trinanes of Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory in Miami, Florida.

Sound velocity profile data were collected using sound velocimeter in the St. Clair and St. Mary rivers in the Great Lakes area by the NAVIGATION RESPONSE TEAM 4 from May 13 to 15, 2006. Data were submitted by Ruby L. Becker of the National Ocean Service (N0S) in Silver Spring, Maryland.

A total of 230 environmental profiles were acquired during the Southeast Area Monitoring and Assessment Program (SEAMAP) summer groundfish survey of the Western and North-central Gulf of Mexico conducted during June and July 2006 and aboard NOAA Ship Oregon II. The profiles were acquired between the 5 and 60 fathom isobaths at stations located east of the Mississippi River and in the area of Brownsville, Texas eastward to the Louisiana Bight. Maximum water depths recorded in the profile headers range from 8.8 to 245.0 meters with an average maximum depth of 39.7 meters.
