This data type contains time series of meteorological and ocean wave data measured by instruments deployed on offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico in 1981-1982. The data were collected as part of a cooperative program between the NOAA National Weather Service and participating oil companies. A station identifier, position and instrument altitude are reported for each series of observations.

The Monitoring Section of the State of Hawaii, Department of Health, Clean Water Branch collected water quality samples at six sites near the mouth of streams and from the surf line along Bellows Beach, Oahu, Hawaii using well-established instruments and methodologies. This dataset spans 1992-1999. This was a special project beyond the routine state-wide monitoring program.

Pressure, salinity, and temperature data were collected from CTD casts from the NOAA Survey Vessel BAY HYDROGRAPHER. Data were collected in the Chesapeake Bay from 05 January 2006 to 28 August 2006. Data were submitted by the National Ocean Service (NOS) and are in the old WHOI CTD Exchange Format.

Data from JAMSTEC drifting buoys which were deployed both as part of the North Pole Environmental Observatory during 2003-2005 and during the Healy trans-Arctic cruise in 2005. The data files contain J-CAD 6 (NPEO 2003), 8 (NPEO 2004), 9 (NPEO 2005), and 10 (Healy trans-Arctic cruise in 2005).

This dataset contains CTD cast and zooplankton data collected during twenty-six cruises to Dabob Bay, Washington in 2002 - 2004 for the project entitled "Copepod - diatom interactions in the sea: paradigm or paradox?", which the National Science Foundation funded under award number OCE-0118044. Data were collected on one CTD cast per cruise in 2002 and 2003 and from multiple CTD casts (approximately every 4-6 hours) on each cruise in 2004.

The Ecosystems and Oceanography Division of the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center, National Marine Fisheries Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), conducted a cruise, OES 04-03, in March 2004 in the South Pacific Ocean near American Samoa on NOAA Ship Oscar Elton Sette. Meridional transects were made along 170.5W and 169W between 10S and 17S. This finalized dataset contains the profiles of temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and chloropigments. The former three go to 1000 dbars and the latter variable to 200 dbars.

The Minerals Management Service (MMS), previously Bureau of Land Management, has funded fall bowhead whale aerial surveys in this area each year since 1978, using a repeatable protocol from 1982 to the present. Bowhead monitoring by MMS Environmental Studies Section, Alaska Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Region, normally overlaps the September-October "open-water" season when offshore drilling and geophysical exploration are feasible and when the fall subsistence hunt for bowhead whales takes place near Kaktovik, Nuiqsut, and Barrow, Alaska.
