In situ observations of the introduced predatory grouper roi (Cephalopholis argus) were taken within the coral reef ecosystem of Puako, northwest side of the Island of Hawaii in 2010-2011. Baseline surveys before roi removal were made in November 2010 and March 2011. After roi removal, a final survey was made in June 2011. A total of 47 transects were surveyed at control, reference, and treatment sites. Observations were made by experienced marine biologists using SCUBA at a depth range of 10-20 m. Tow board and standard visual belt transects were employed.

Submarine canyons are dominant features of the outer continental shelf and slope of the US East coast from Cape Hatteras to the Gulf of Maine. They are important conduits of anthropogenic pollutants, organic carbon, and sediments from shallow to deeper waters and support ecologically important ecosystems, such as cold seeps and hard bottom and coral habitats. The geology of these features has been well studied; however, despite their high productivity, biological data are limited (particularly deeper than 200 m).

This research targets the Hawaii Coral Reef Initiative (HCRI) Priority Area A: Kahekili, Maui: Herbivore Fisheries Management Area (KHFMA). The project goal was to evaluate the efficacy of this new management action by developing a detailed algal production/herbivore consumption budget. The KHFMA was established in an effort to promote herbivore grazing and thus reverse the decline in coral cover on the reef through increased algal consumption.

This dataset contains discrete bottle sample data for total Dissolved Inorganic Carbon (DIC) and Total Alkalinity (TAlk), water temperature and salinity samples, collected for validation and internal consistency analyses at the First Landing MAPCO2 system in the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay (36.9981 N, -76.0873 W). Samples were collected and immediately preserved with 0.2 µL of saturated Mercuric Chloride from 2018-05-02 to 2020-10-06. Samples were transported to the Cai-Laboratory at the University of Delaware for analysis.

Samples were collected and immediately preserved with 0.2 µL of saturated Mercuric Chloride from 2018 through 2021. Samples were transported to the Cai-Laboratory at the University of Delaware for analysis.

These data include the location, coordinates, species, and number of colonies for corals outplanted from coral nurseries for population enhancement in Florida, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands between 1993 and 2020. These data were compiled from permit reports for the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and the State of Florida Special Activity License and from coral nursery operators.
