The South Texas Outer Continental Shelf Project (STOCS) conducted by the University of Texas and the USGS with funding from BLM/NOAA. The USGS produced geochemical analyses of sediment and suspended sediment, clay mineralogy, and physical properties of sediment for 264 samples collected from October 26, 1974 to December 21, 1974. Additional grain size analyses are not included in the Seafloor sediment digital grain size database due to numerous errors.

The Marine Ecosystems Analysis (MESA) Program, New York Bight Study was funded by NOAA and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The Atlas was a historical compilation of surficial sediment grain size analyses in the NY Bight from 1957-1979. 5,928 cores, grabs, and dredges are included from multiple cruises: (BCTS, BLM01B-BLM08B, FIM01-FIM14, HSV, LEI-A - LEI-M, OCSS, Quart1 - Quart5, RBCI02 - RBCI04, RBCII1 - RBCII4, and RECON). Data are in the historic 073 format.

The MAFLA (Mississippi, Alabama, Florida) Study was funded by NOAA as part of the Outer Continental Shelf Program. Dr. L.J. Doyle produced grain size analyses in the historic 073 format for 2,168 sea floor samples collected on multiple cruises (MAFLA cruises 2, 10, 11, 29, 39, 14, 21, and MAFLA DM1 and DM2) conducted in the Gulf of Mexico from May 16, 1974 through February 20, 1978.

This data set contains grain size data from samples acquired under the NOAA Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program (OCSEAP) from the Outer Continental Shelf around Alaska. Data were contributed by the University of Alaska, the University of South Carolina, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and the US Geological Survey with funding from NOAA.

The Southwest Florida Shelf Ecosystems Analysis Study produced grain size analyses in the historic 073 format for 299 sea floor samples collected from October 25, 1980 to February 15, 1982 by the Venture during cruises ECO0-3 in the Southwest Florida Continental Shelf in the Gulf of Mexico. Data include collecting institution, ship, cruise, sample id, latitude/longitude, date of collection, water depth, sampling device, method of analysis, sample weight, sampled interval, raw weight percentages of sediment, within a given phi range.

These data are part of Roberts, Richard W., University of Washington, Department of Oceanography Special Report No. 70, Bottom Sediment Granulometric Data for the Continental Margins of the Bering, Chukchi, East Siberian, Laptev, and Beaufort Seas. Data in the report represent granulometric analyses conducted by UW of over 4,300 sediment samples from approximately 1,500 stations collected during cruises of the Brown Bear, Thomas G. Thompson, Northwind, Staten Island, Burton Island, Surveyor, John N. Cobb, and Drifting Ice Station Alpha II.

These data are part of the Brine Disposal Program funded by NOAA in the US Gulf of Mexico, compiled by NOAA/CEAS and partially conducted by R. W. Hann of Texas A and M University. Grain size analyses conducted on 230 grabs by Texas A and M University were added to the historic NGDC Seafloor Sediment Grain Size Database from multiple cruises of the Lady Gloria conducted during October of 1982.

The Ecological Investigations of Petroleum Production Platforms in the Central Gulf of Mexico Project was conducted by Texas A and M University under contract to NOAA and the Bureau of Land Management under the BLM/OCS Outer Continental Shelf Program. Grain size analyses were produced for 1654 samples collected from May 22, 1978 through January 15, 1979 by the ships Sea Transporter and T-Kip IV in the central Gulf of Mexico. Analyses were contributed in the historic 073 format.

The Scripps Institution of Oceanography compiled descriptions of sediment samples in the Alaskan Outer Continental Shelf area, funded through the NOAA Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program (OCSEAP), with previous funding from the International Decade of Ocean Exploration (IDOE) by the National Science Foundation, as part of the SIO world sediment data bank. Descriptions and basic grain size analyses of 688 core, dredge, and grab samples from the Alaskan outer continental shelf are included, along with station and reference information. These data are in ASCII form.

In 1975 the BRGM and CNEXO in France joined to create a national marine geological sampling center at the Centre Oceanologique de Bretagne in Brest. This center collects and stores samples of the sea bottom and subbottom from all over the world and makes them available to any person or institution interested in their study. A French national scientific commission defined the rules for collecting operating and using this facility.
