The U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Atlantic Oceanograpic and Meteorological
Laboratories (AOML) formerly operated a geosample repository which stored ocean floor cores and grabs collected during their marine geology research activities.
The repository housed 968 cores, grabs, and suspended sediment samples from multiple cruises of the ships Ferrel and Researcher collected from 1974 through 1981.

The U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory
(PMEL) contributed information describing 29 ocean floor geological samples in their local collection to the Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples (IMLGS)
database to increase their discoverability and access. The samples include box and gravity cores collected by PMEL during cruises PFLUX84 and PFLUX85 of the ship Discoverer, and
cruise PLUME85 of the Surveyor.

Information was contributed on 1098 gravity cores, 365 piston cores, and 317 dredges collected on 86 cruises of the Columbus Iselin, Gerda, Halimeda,
James M. Gillis, Pilsbury, NOAA Researcher, and Vicca, in the Atlantic Ocean.

The University of California San Diego (UCSD) Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) is a partner in the Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples (IMLGS) database, contributing information about SIO Geologcial Collections to the IMLGS to help researchers discover marine geosamples curated by SIO. The SIO partner repository also sends related data, documents, and imagery to NCEI for long-term archive, but the originating institution is the definitive source of information related to their sample collection.

The U.S. Geological Survey Coastal and Marine Geology Program (CMGP) Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center (PCMSC) Samples Repository is a partner in the Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples (IMLGS) database. The Curator sends data and information related to the PCMSC marine geological sample collection to NCEI to increase their discoverability via the IMLGS.
