Archive of Geosample Data and Information from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program (CMHRP) St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (SPCMSC) Samples Repository

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program (CMHRP) St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (SPCMSC) Samples Repository is a partner in the Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples (IMLGS) database. The Curator sends data and information related to the SPCMSC marine geological sample collection to NCEI to increase their discoverability via the IMLGS.

Archive of Geosample Data and Information from the University of Texas at Austin (UT) Institute of Geophysics

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Metadata describing piston cores curated by Institute of Geophysics of the University of Texas at Austin (UT) collected from 1976 to 1978 were coded and contributed by UT to the Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples (IMLGS) database. Descriptions are for 204 piston cores collected in the Gulf of Mexico, during 390 cruises of the Gus III, the Longhorn, and the Ida Green. These samples are no longer available for distribution/study, but are well described in the IMLGS.

Archive of Geosample Data and Information from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) Seafloor Samples Laboratory

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) Seafloor Samples Laboratory is a partner in the Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples (IMLGS) database, contributing information to the IMLGS to help researchers discover geological samples curated in their facility. The partner repository may also send related data, documents, and imagery to NCEI for long-term archive, but the originating institution is the definitive source of information related to their sample collection.

Archive of Geosample Data and Information from the University of Wisconsin Ice Island T3 Core Collection

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

From 1963 to 1972, 349 piston cores were collected from the Arctic Ocean using Ice Island T3 as a sampling platform and sent to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for curation. Dr. David Clark of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Geoscience made a one-time contribution of metadata describing these Ice Island T3 piston cores to the Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples (IMLGS) database. No further data are expected from this core repository. All cores in this collection are from latitudes above 77 degrees north in the Arctic Ocean.

Worldwide Database of Analog Marine Seismics, Bathymetry, Magnetics, and Gravity Data

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Analog Marine Geophysical Underway data file consists primarily of seismic data and some bathymetry, magnetics, and gravity data. Most of the data are released to NGDC in microform packages; microfilm, microfiche exceptions include deep penetration seismic record sections and maps released in full or half scale. The data cover approximately 5 million miles of worldwide oceans and have been collected by various academic institutions, government agencies and foreign governments. Data are quality checked, master and backup copies produced and disseminated upon request.

Values About Ancient Magnetic Poles, Declination, Inclination, and Intensity, That Can Be Used to Track the Magnetic Pole and Continent Movements

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The study of magnetism is one of the oldest of the geophysical sciences. It is unique among the sciences in that ancient records of the geomagnetic field are preserved in rocks and changes in the field can be traced through time. To assist the scientist studying the Earth's ancient magnetization, the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) has available the following data of paleopole positions and paleomagnetic directions. The Global PaleoMagnetic Directions and Poles Data Base (GPMDB) Version 3.1 revised May 1995. This data base, established by M. McElhinny and J.

Gravity Anomalies and Estimated Topography Derived from Satellite Altimetry

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

In many areas of the global ocean, the depth of the seafloor is not well known because survey lines by ships are hundreds of kilometers apart. Satellites carrying radar altimeters have measured the shape of the ocean along tracks only 3-4 km apart, and from these data we can make very accuratore (+/-3mGal) and high resolution (15km) maps of the marine gravity field. The gravity field mimics the seafloor topography in the 15-160 km wavelength band if sediment cover on the ocean floor is thin.

Collection of Observed Gravity Values, Absolute Gravity Measurements, Grids and Other Derived Summary Data

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) of NOAA, in cooperation with the National Geodetic Survey of NOAA, have published a Gravity CD-ROM containing observed and derived gravity measurements. Contributions to this data compilation include many national and international organizations, in both academia and government. The compact disc contains almost 620 Mbytes of data, partitioned into 1486 files. Approximately 25 percent of the data are observed values -- regional station data collections (separated primarily by contributors) and absolute gravity measurements.

Total Sediment Thickness of the World's Oceans & Marginal Seas

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

A digital total-sediment-thickness database for the world's oceans and marginal seas has been compiled by the NOAA National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC). The data were gridded with a grid spacing of 5 arc-minutes by 5 arc-minutes. Sediment-thickness data were compiled from three principle sources: (i) previously published isopach maps including Ludwig and Houtz [1979], Matthias et al.
