This dataset contains oceanographic data collected in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI), beginning in Mutan, Saipan and concluding in Santa Rita, Guam. Exploration operations for this cruise focused on deep-water areas near the northern edge of CNMI and the Trench and Islands units of the Marianas Trench Marine National Monument (MTMNM). Operations used the ship’s deep water mapping systems and the ship’s high-bandwidth satellite connection for periodic real-time ship to shore communications.

Water samples were collected from the ocean surface using a bucket and from below the surface using bottles attached to the CTD during a Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center's Cetacean Research Program's shipboard cetacean survey (Cruise ID: SE 11-08). A minimum of three surface water samples were taken each day, primarily at 0900, 1200, and 1500 hours local ship time. Surface water samples were also collected opportunistically during some cetacean sightings. CTD samples were collected once each morning.
