This dataset consists of surface measurements of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), total alkalinity (TALK), temperature and salinity during the R/V Marion-Dufresne Ocean Indien Service d'Observations - 27 (OISO-27) cruise (EXPOCODE 35MV20170105) in the Indian Ocean from 2017-01-05 to 2017-02-07. The OISO program (Océan Indien Service d'Observations), initiated in 1998, collects measurements of pCO2 and associated parameters (T, S, DIC, TALK, nutrients, Chl-a, 13C) along the repeated lines of R.V.

Cruise names and expocodes: CB2017_11 (AG5W20171117), CB2018_01 (AG5W20180112), CB2018_03 (AG5W20180309), CB2018_05 (AG5W20180502), CB2018_07 (AG5W20180630), CB2018_09 (AG5W20180827). All cruises were transits between the North American West Coast and New Zealand. This effort was conducted in support of NOAA's Climate Program Office (CPO), and Ocean Acidification Program (OAP).

Increasing amounts of atmospheric carbon dioxide from human industrial activities are causing changes in global ocean carbon chemistry ultimately resulting in a reduction in pH, a process termed ocean acidification.
