International Surface Temperature Initiative (ISTI) Global Land Surface Temperature Databank - Stage 1 Daily

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The global land surface temperature databank contains monthly timescale mean, max, and min temperature for approximately 40,000 stations globally. It was developed as part of the International Surface Temperature Initiative. This is the global repository for all monthly timescale land surface observations from the 1800s to present and uses data deriving from sub-daily, daily, and monthly observations.

Hurricane Satellite (HURSAT) Microwave (MW)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Hurricane Satellite (HURSAT) from Microwave (MW) observations of tropical cyclones worldwide data consist of raw satellite observations. The data derive from the global constellation of geostationary satellites (GOES, Meteosat, MS, and FY2 series) spanning 1987 through 2009. Passive microwave observations provide significant information content given that most clouds are transparent at microwave wavelengths. The HURSAT-MW data set is constructed in largely the same manner as HURSAT-B1.

NCEP-GTS Marine Observations in IMMA format

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Global Telecommunications System (GTS) is a major component of transmitting global meteorological data, consisting of both in situ and satellite observations. This data is collected by a number of organizations, which archive and further process the data. The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) collect this GTS data and format it into BUFR (Binary Universal Form for the Representation of meteorological data) for their processing needs.

Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Global Area Coverage (VGAC), Version 1

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument represents a significant change from the historical weather satellite observations. For example, there are several differences in observation style, channel, structure, etc. from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) which flew on low earth orbit satellites since the 1970s. Several longstanding climate data records were developed expressly using the AVHRR instrument. The VIIRS Global Area Coverage (VGAC) dataset is an attempt to more closely bridge the old technology with the new.
