NCCOS Mapping: Comprehensive Seafloor Substrate Mapping and Model Validation in the New York Bight from 2017-10-20 to 2019-03-27 (NCEI Accession 0204737)

This collection of benthic habitat mapping data is an inventory of hydrographic multibeam sonar surveys, georeferenced benthic photographs and video clips, seafloor morphometric analysis, and predictive models all collected in the New York Wind Energy Areas (NYWEA) designated by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) in the Northeast Atlantic. These areas are located in a region known as the New York Bight, offshore of the New Jersey and Long Island, NY, coastlines. The multibeam data sets contain both bathymetry and backscatter data of the call areas from 2015-2018.

This dataset contains data collected from the Puget Sound cruise that took place from 2010-10-31 to 2010-11-03 aboard the R/V Thomas G. Thompson. Forty one time-series stations were occupied in the Salish Sea in Washington State marine waters. The cruise was designed to obtain a synoptic snapshot of key carbon, physical, and other biogeochemical parameters as they relate to ocean acidification (OA) in Washington's estuarine and coastal environments.

Photogrammetric Estimates of Mass and Body Condition of Leopard Seals in the Antarctic Using an Unmanned Aerial System from 2013-01-01 to 2014-03-31 (NCEI Accession 0168214)

We aerially surveyed leopard seals of known body size and mass to test the precision and accuracy of photogrammetry from a small Unmanned Aerial System (UAS). Flights were conducted in January and February of 2013 and 2014 and 50 photogrammetric samples were obtained from 15 unrestrained seals. Photogrammetric measurements from a single, vertical image obtained using UAS provide a noninvasive approach for estimating the mass and body condition of pinnipeds that may be widely applicable.

Data were collected using an EM710 multibeam sonar with a vertical resolution of 0.2% of water depth, and a horizontal resolution of 3% of water depth. NCCOS Ecological Effects of Sea Level Rise in the Northern Gulf of Mexico (EESLR-NGOM): Mean High Water and Salt Marsh Productivity (Hydro-MEM) (NCEI Accession 0170338)

This dataset contains salt marsh productivity projections under different sea level rise scenarios for the northern Gulf of Mexico (Florida panhandle, Alabama, and Mississippi) using a coupled hydrodynamic-marsh model called Hydro-MEM (Alizad et al. 2016a and 2016b). The modeled outputs were derived through integrated modeling of tidal hydrodynamics (ADCIRC) and marsh productivity (Marsh Equilibrium Model, or MEM) that incorporates dynamic feedbacks among physical and biological processes.

NCCOS Ecological Effects of Sea Level Rise in the Northern Gulf of Mexico (EESLR-NGOM): Simulated Storm Surge (NCEI Accession 0170339)

This dataset contains simulated storm surge results for the northern Gulf of Mexico (Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida panhandle) using a high-resolution SWAN+ADCIRC model (Bilskie, 2016b). The modeling approach incorporates dynamic processes including salt marsh evolution, shoreline and dune height change, land use land cover, as well as sea level rise, for the year 2100. This modeling effort permits more robust and realistic results than using a static, or ‘bathtub,’ approach (Passeri et al., 2015).

This dataset reports species caught using longline and trap sets during R/V Apalachee cruise in the Northern Gulf of Mexico from October 8-15, 2013. Species data includes species name, sex, weight, length, and maturity state, if available. It also report if samples were collected from individuals for other analyses, though the results of those analyses are not reported. Information about the sets include bait used, gear, effort, and sea state. Additional files in the dataset report pressure and temperature data collected during longline trapping activities.

This dataset consists of surface measurements of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), total alkalinity (TALK), temperature and salinity during the R/V Marion-Dufresne Ocean Indien Service d'Observations - 4 (OISO-04) cruise (EXPOCODE 35MV20000115) in the Indian Ocean and Southern Ocean from 2000-01-15 to 2000-02-07. The OISO program, initiated in 1998, collects measurements of partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) and associated parameters (temperature, salinity, DIC, TALK, nutrients, chlorophyll and 13C) along the repeated lines of R.V.
