SEA HEIGHT and Other Data from FIXED STATIONS From Mediterranean Sea from 1981-09-01 to 1982-09-30 (NCEI Accession 9000011)

This data set describes the Medalpex Sea Level project which took place from September 1, 1981 to September 30, 1982. The main purpose of medalpex was to understand the effect of wind forcing on the dynamics of the western part of the mediterranean sea. Sea level data was submitted to the Marine Information and Advisory Service (MIAS) which is the UK's National Oceanographic Data Centre. There were 29 medalpex sites with contributions from Belgium, France, Monaco, Italy, Spain, Yugoslavia and the UK. The data is available in GF-3 format.

The Conductivity, Temperature and Depth (CTD) and Bathythermograph (XBT) data were collected as part of Texas Institutions Gulf Ecosystem Research (TIGER) program. One week of data was collected from Gulf of Mexico using Ship GYRE. The data was collected over a period spanning from March 2, 1991 to March 9, 1991. Data was collected as part of a study supported by grant MMS # 14-35-0001-30501 to Dr. Douglas C. Biggs and was submitted by Dr. Edward Webb of Texas A&M University, College Station, TX.

Rushton of Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO), Stennis Space Center, MS.

The current, temperature and wind data in this accession was collected over a four year period from 48 current meters fixed from 8 moorings as part of Equatorial Pacific Ocean Climate Studies. The arrays of current meters were deployed in TOGA Area - Pacific (30 N to 30 S). The data was collected by University of Southern California, Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory and National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) from April 9, 1991 to May 8, 1995. The current meter data from arrays EP26-EP29 was submitted by NDBC via Sid Stillwaugh to NODC.

The water depth and temperature data was collected as part of Global Temperature- Salinity Pilot Project (GTSPP) using 13 different ships by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. The data was collected for the year 1994. The originator's 2,715 drop profiles containing bathythermograph (XBT) data files were submitted by Ann Gronell in GTSPP format via FTP. This data has been replaced. Once on June 6, 1997 and again on July 2, 1997. The last time for hemisphere error.

The Master Oceanographic Observation Data Set (MOODS), maintained by the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO), Stennis Space Center, Mississippi, is the standard Navy database for oceanographic observations. Data contained in MOODS include observations of thermal and chemical properties of the water column from surface to bottom, the biota and currents in the water column, and the underlying sea floor as collected by oceanographic agencies worldwide.
