This project was part of a team effort by NOAA, the EPA, the State of Michigan, and the USGS to collect samples of sediments within the Manistique Harbor Area of Concern to better delineate the arial extent and depth of PCB contamination in sediments. NOAA collected samples within 3 zones only, zones 3, 4, and 6. A total of 32 different locations were selected based on where it had been determined that data was inadequate.

Soil salinity data from Grand Liard Bayou and flanking marshes, New Orleans, LA, 2015-12-01 to 2016-03-30 (NCEI Accession 0151634)

The project restored both structural and habitat functions of Grand Liard Bayou and flanking marshes. The project created and nourished marsh and restored a ridge on the east bank of Bayou Grand Liard. Approximately 50% of the created marsh will be planted with smooth cordgrass, and the entire ridge will be planted with appropriate woody vegetation. Soil samples to be taken every 6 months over a 2- to 3-year period due to concerns about high salinities of the ridge soils affecting survivability of the planted woody vegetation.

Aiming for near-real-time data-quality monitoring of the satellite sea surface salinity (SSS) Level-2 products, the satellite oceanography team of NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) has generated 1.0-degree Level-3 gridded experimental products from the European Space Agency (ESA) Soil Moisture Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission. The datasets are comprised of monthly and 3-day mean and generated directly from SMOS V6.22 Level-2 products. The Level-2 swath data is interpolated onto a 1.0-degree grid using equal-weighted box (“bin”) averaging.

Seaglider is a buoyancy driven autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) developed by scientists and engineers at the University of Washington's School of Oceanography and Applied Physics Laboratory. Seagliders are designed to glide from the ocean surface to a programmed depth and back while measuring temperature, salinity, depth-averaged current, and other quantities along a sawtooth trajectory through the water. Seaglider has entered wide use in scientific deployments. They are designed for missions in range of several thousand kilometers and durations of many months.
