2004 Sediment Grab Data for Catlett and Goodwin Islands on the York River, Chesapeake Bay, Virginia (Ches_2004sedgrabs)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This data set represents the sediment grain size gathered from grab sampling in 2004 (12 stations). In Fall/Winter 2002, researchers from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) and the NOAA Office for Coastal Management conducted a project to map benthic habitats by Catlett and Goodwin Islands on the York River, Chesapeake Bay, Virginia. Sediment grab samples were collected at 56 stations and sediment profile images were collected at 200 stations. Sampling areas were also surveyed using side scan sonar and multibeam bathymetry sensors.

Willapa Bay, Washington Benthic Habitats 1995 Biotic

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

In June 1995, the Columbia River Estuary Study Taskforce (CREST) acquired 295 true color aerial photographs (1:12,000) of Willapa Bay, Washington, from the State of Washington Department of Transportation (WDOT), suitable for the interpretation of submerged rooted aquatic vascular plant populations. In August 1995, field surveys were conducted by a team composed of staff from Oregon State University, CREST, and the Washington Department of Natural Resources, for spectral signature development and verification as well as habitat observation.

Delaware Bay, Delaware Sediment Distribution 2003 to 2004

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The area of coverage consists of 38 square miles of benthic habitat mapped from 2003 to 2004 along the middle to lower Delaware Bay Coast. The bottom sediment map was constructed by the utilization of a Roxann Seabed Classification System and extensive sediment grab samples.

American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates for Coastal Geographies

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The American Community Survey (ACS) is an ongoing statistical survey that samples a small percentage of the population every year. These data have been apportioned to 13 coastal geographies, and contain detailed demographic, social, economic, and housing characteristics. They represent 5-year estimates derived from the ACS Block Group summary files. Detailed information on the ACS data can be found at the Census Bureau's American Community Survey website and in their researcher's guide entitled, "A Compass for Understanding and Using American Community Survey Data".

Critical Facilities for Coastal Geographies

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The critical facilities data are derived from the USGS Structures Inventory Database (June, 2016). The structures in the derived dataset displays aggregated totals of law enforcement facilities, fire stations and EMS facilities, hospital and other medical facilities, and schools within several coastal footprints. These footprints include Coastal Shoreline Counties, Coastal Watershed Counties, Coastal States, the Coastal Zone, and FEMA Flood Zones.

Demographic Trends (1970-2010) for Coastal Geographies

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Demographic Trends (1970-2010) were derived from Census Block Group Data for 13 different coastal geographies. For a full listing of the geographies available, see: http://www.coast.noaa.gov/htdata/SocioEconomic/DemographicTrends/Demogr…. The land area reported in the county and state file are the 2010 land areas reported in the attribute table of the shapefiles provided by Census.
