Northeast Groundfish Recreational Fishing Demand Survey (ME, MA, NH)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Stated preference choice experiment data were collected in conjunction with NMFS’ Marine Recreational Fisheries Statistics Survey (MRFSS) along the coastal states of Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts during 2014. All anglers intercepted in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts for NMFS' Marine Recreational Information Program (MRIP) intercept survey were asked to participate in a voluntary follow-up mail survey. Anglers who agreed to participate in the follow-up were sent mail questionnaires using a modified Dillman Tailored Design.

Northeast Summer Flounder, Scup, Black Sea Bass Recreational Fishing Demand Survey

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Stated preference choice experiment data were collected in conjunction with NMFS’ Marine Recreational Fisheries Statistics Survey (MRFSS) along the coastal states of Maine through North Carolina during calendar year 2010. All anglers intercepted in the Northeast for the MRFSS were asked to participate in a voluntary follow-up mail survey. All anglers that agreed to participate in the follow-up were sent mail questionnaires using a modified Dillman Tailored Design. Anglers were given the option of completing the survey by mail or online.

Massachusetts Recreational Fishing Demand Survey

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Stated preference choice experiment data were collected in 2012 from Massachuestts saltwater recreational fishermen. Saltwater anglers fishing in Massachusetts (MA) waters who obtained a 2012 saltwater recreational fishing permit during the first four months of 2012 were elgible for participation in the study. Potential survey respondents were drawn randomly each month beginning in February and ending in May of 2012. The study consisted of three separate sample groups.

AFSC/FMA/Salmon Genetics From Observer Specimens

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Genetic data of salmon bycatch samples collected by fisheries observers are used for mixed-stock analyses to determine geographic region of origin. This work is done at the Auk Bay Lab in Juneau Alaska. The data are loaded to the the North Pacific Halibut and Groundfish database maintained by FMA Division at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center in Seattle Washington

AFSC/ABL: Longline Survey Special Projects

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Two-day experiments have been conducted as a separate leg on the Alaska Fisheries Science Centers longline survey since 1998. Experiments are conducted usually in the vicinity of Yakutat, Alaska in late July of each year. The majority of projects are longline gear related and include hook spacing experiments, hand versus auto bait gear comparisons, and bait type comparisons. Rockfish genetics and sperm whale depredation studies have also been conducted.

AFSC/ABL: Lynn Canal Overwinter Acoustic Survey, 2004-2005

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The acoustic trawl database for Lynn Canals echo-trawl survey was conducted from 2001 to 2004 throughout southern Lynn Canal in southeast Alaska. Acoustic surveys were conducted one day per month and trawl surveys were conducted every 3 months to verify acoustic signals and collect biological data. This study was conducted to study the relationship between Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) and their prey. Additional acoustic surveys were conducted throughout the winter of 2004 to 2005 on 6 consecutive days once a month in order to study forage fish hots spots.

AFSC/ABL: Frederick Sound Echo-integrated Trawl Survey, 2001 to 2004

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The acoustic trawl database for Frederick Sounds echo-trawl survey was conducted from 2001 to 2004. The surveys were conducted throughout most of the southern part of Stephens Passage and Frederick Sound in southeast Alaska and all their adjoining bays. Acoustic and trawl surveys were conducted every 3 months to verify acoustic signals and to collect biological data. This study was conducted to study the relationship between Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) and their prey. Acoustic equipment were calibrated before every trawl survey.

AFSC/ABL: Glacier Bay Harbor Seal Survey, 2004-2007

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The acoustic data collected in Glacier bay from 2005 2007 was used to study the link between marine predator (harbor seals) diving behavior to local prey fields in contrasting habitats in a glacial fjord. Standardized acoustic surveys were setup and run monthly throughout the summer and throughout Glacier Bay. Fish species were identified from previous trawl surveys while acoustic data was used to locate prey within the bay and water column in association with Harbor seals.

Gulf of Maine Cooperative Bottom Longline Survey Database

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This database is for a bottom longline (fixed gear) survey executed in the western and central Gulf of Maine targeting complex rocky habitats. The survey is operated from collaborating commercial fishing vessels, and deploys 1 nm sets of traditional 'tub trawl' bottom longline groundfish gear (1000 hooks). Longline gear is deployed at randomly selected stations within selected NEFSC bottom trawl survey (BTS) strata in the western and central Gulf of Maine during the spring and autumn, overlapping temporally with the NEFSC seasonal BTS in that region.
