Newport Hydrographic Line
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
We carry out oceanographic cruises every two weeks, and have done so for the past 20 years, in continental shelf and slope waters off Newport Oregon, along the Newport Hydrographic Line. In addition, 2-4 times per year we sample multiple transects off Washington, Oregon and northern California.
High-frequency oceanographic cruises, as described in the "Project Description".

Salmon Population Summary - Impacts of climate change on Pacific salmon
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
This work involves 1) synthesizing information from the literature and 2) modeling impacts of climate change on specific aspects of salmon life history and viability. Annual literature reviews summarize information from peer-reviewed journals and major technical reports relevant to managing Pacific salmon, with an emphasis on information that is most relevant for salmon in the Pacific Northwest and the Columbia River Basin.

CTD data - Pre-recruit surveys to aid stock assessment
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Annual surveys of juvenile fish and ecosystem status have been conducted since 2011 surveying the entire coast of Oregon and southern Washington. Trawl surveys are done at night in midwater along transects spaced every half degree of latitude and environmental, plankton, and benthic sampling occurred at specific locations and seabird, marine mammal and acoustic surveys are conducted underway between transects and stations.
Temperature, salinity, conductitity, chlorophyll, oxygen.

PTAGIS - Development of Large PIT-Tag Antennas to Estimate Migration Timing and Survival for Adult Salmonids near Pile Dikes in the Columbia River Estuary
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
We continued research and development of a passive PIT-tag detection system along a pile dike in the estuary (rkm 70). Target fish for this system are returning adult salmonids, whose detection in the mid-estuary can be compared with subsequent detections at upstream dams to determine timing and survival during the adult migration. In 2013 we changed all system

Elwha Master Datafile - Elwha dam removal neashore monitoring
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Removal of two dams on the Elwha River, Washington will help restore natural sediment processes to the coastal environment near the river mouth. We are interested in the responses of fish associated with shallow subtidal and intertidal habitats because they function as spawning and rearing habitat for many fish species including the ecologically important forage fish and federally protected species of Pacific salmon. Since 2006, we have been collecting species composition and size distribution of the intertidal/subtidal fish community in the Eastern and Central Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Coho Use of Beaver Ponds in California - Movers and stayers: seasonal growth of alternative behavioral strategies of juvenile coho in natural and constructed habitats of mid-Klamath tributaries
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) once ranged across the western part of the North America from Alaska to California. Due to habitat destruction, over fishing, hatcheries, dams, and climate change the range and abundance of coho salmon have been greatly reduced, resulting in the federal listing of many coho salmon populations as threatened or endangered (CDFG 2002). Of particular concern are the populations at the southern end of their range including the Southern Oregon/Northern California (SONCC) coho salmon Evolutionarily Significant Unit (ESU), which encompasses the Klamath Basin.

Coastal Assessment Framework - National Assessment of Estuary and Coastal Habitats
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Under the National Fish Habitat Partnership, scientists at the NEFSC, NWFSC, and Silver Spring Headquarters are compiling information on the nation's estuarine and coastal habitats and the species they support in order to assess their current potential for restoration and protection.
National project headed up by F/ST. Jihong Dai documents InPort metadata.
Geographic data on the nation's coasts and estuaries.

PIT Tag data - Monitoring the migrations of wild Snake River spring/summer Chinook salmon juveniles
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
This is an ongoing Bonneville Power Administration funded project to annually collect, PIT tag, and release wild Chinook salmon parr in up to 15 streams of the Salmon River drainage in Idaho and subsequently monitor these fish through in-stream monitoring sites and downstream dams.

Bird Distribution and Abundance - Ocean Survival of Salmonids
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
A study to evaluate the role of changing ocean conditions on growth and survival of juvenile salmon from the Columbia River basin as they enter the Columbia River plume and Pacific Northwest coastal habitats. Adult returns vary dramatically (over 10 fold) as a result of changing (good or bad) ocean conditions juveniles experience. Evaluating the benefit of restoration efforts in the Columbia River to restore endangered salmon populations needs to consider ocean conditions as a contributing factor to recovery.

At-Sea Hake Observer Program (ASHOP) Dataset - Observer Program Operations and Analysis
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
NWFSC Observer programs are the most comprehensive fishery dependent data collection system for total mortality estimation, protected species monitoring and discard data for stock assessments. Observer data is also used to track quotas in-season for the catch share IFQ fishery. The numerous observer program total mortality and bycatch reports are used by agency and council staff for management of federal and state fisheries on the west coast of the US.
