Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary Boundary (polygons)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Office of National Marine Sanctuaries manages a system of sanctuaries and other managed areas around the country. The legal boundaries of these sanctuaries are defined within the Code of Federal Regulations, at 15 C.F.R. Part 922 and the subparts for each national marine sanctuary. The GIS compatible digital boundary files for each national marine sanctuary are representations of those legal boundaries and are based on the best available data. These files are available for public use at locations defined in this metadata record.

Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary - grab110_0204 - Sediment grabs within survey area 110_0204 taken from USGS usSeabed

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Over the past 50 years there has been an explosion in scientific interest, research effort, and information gathered on the geologic sedimentary character of the continental margin of the United States. Data and information from thousands of publications have greatly increased our scientific understanding of the geologic origins of the margin surface but rarely have those data been combined and integrated. This publication is the first release of the Pacific coast data from the usSEABED database.

Coverage hab108_0201 -- Habitat polygons for HMPR-108-2002-01 survey in Olympic Coast national marine sanctuary.

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Benthic habitat polygon coverages are being created for the Olympic Coast national marine sanctuary (OCNMS).ROV, towed camera sled, bathymetry data, sedimentary samples, and sonar mapping have been integrated to describe the geological, biological, and oceanographic aspects of habitat. OCNMS has collected side scan sonar and video data to produce polygon coverages. The habitat polygons have attributes for megahabitat, bottom in duration, mesohabitat, macrohabitat and biology (where direct observations are available), polygon area and perimeter.

hab108_0201_east.tif -- Side scan sonar image (East mosaic) from survey effort HMPR-108-2002-01 in the Olympic Coast national marine sanctuary.

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This side scan sonar image of the sea floor (120-350 m water depths) was mosaiced from data collected in 2002.An Edgetech DF1000 side scan system was used for geophysical surveying using only the 100Khz data. A Trimble DSM212Hdifferential GPS was used for positioning. Navigation from the GPS and gyro were logged in Hypack version 005B (CoastalOceanographics). Isis Sonar (Triton Imaging International) was used to log the digital sonar packets and cable counter data. Sonar data were captured using at an 150m range scale setting.
