A custom built camera sled outfitted with video equipment (and other devices) was deployed from the NOAA research vessel Tatoosh during August 2005. Video data from specific dives falling within the bounds of the HMPR-115-2004-03 survey area were reviewed to examine the benthic characteristics as a tool for validating sonar imagery.

Data were collected by the SHOALS-1000T(Scanning Hydrographic Operational Airborne LidarSurvey)system which consists of an airborne lasertransmitter/receiver with a 1kHz. bathymetric laser and a10 kHz topographic laser. Over 24,000 digital still framephotographs were taken simultaneously to LIDAR acquisition.Latitude and longitude were captured and logged with eachphotograph. Latitude and longitude were extracted from thephoto log file and converted to a point file.

The Office of National Marine Sanctuaries manages a system of sanctuaries and othermanaged areas around the country. The legal boundaries of These sanctuaries aredefined within the Code of Federal Regulations, at 15 C.F.R. Part 922 and thesubparts for each national marine sanctuary. The GIS compatible digital boundaryfiles for each national marine sanctuary are representations of those legalboundaries and are based on the best available data. These files are availablefor public use at locations defined in this metadata record.
