Chesapeake Bay and the Outer Coasts of Maryland and Virginia 2016 ESI Polygons
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
This data set contains vector polygons representing the coastal habitats of Chesapeake Bay and the Outer Coasts of Maryland and Virginia classified according to the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) classification system. This data set comprises a portion of the ESI data for Chesapeake Bay and the Outer Coasts of Maryland and Virginia. ESI data characterize the marine and coastal environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats, sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources.

ESI GIS Data and PDF Maps: Environmental Sensitivity Index including GIS Data and Maps (for the U.S. Shorelines, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico)
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) maps are an integral component in oil-spill contingency planning and assessment. They serve as a source of information in the event of an oil spill incident. ESI maps are a product of the Hazardous Materials Response Division of the Office of Response and Restoration (OR&R).ESI maps contain three types of information: shoreline habitats (classified according to their sensitivity to oiling), human-use resources, and sensitive biological resources.

Sensitivity of Coastal Environments and Wildlife to Spilled Oil: South Florida: BIRDS (Bird Polygons)
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
This data set contains sensitive biological resource data for diving birds, gulls, terns, passerine birds, pelagic birds, raptors, shorebirds, wading birds, and waterfowl in [for] South Florida. Vector polygons in this data set represent bird nesting, migratory staging, wintering, and foraging/resting sites. Species specific abundance, seasonality, status, life history, and source information are stored in relational data tables (described below) designed to be used in conjunction with this spatial data layer. This data set comprises a portion of the ESI data for South Florida.
