This dataset contains data collected from the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration Hidden Ocean cruise in the Arctic Ocean from the USCGC Healy. Data were collected from 2005-06-26 to 2005-07-26 and include ocean profiles from XBT and CTD casts, current data from ADCPs and temperature and salinity data from the shipboard thermosalinograph. Satellite images and a digital movie taken from the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) are also included in this accession.

Digital images of color-infrared photographic slides of kelp canopies taken during aerial surveys in 1999 as part of the California Coastal Kelp Resources project (NCEI Accession 0002429)

The dynamic and sometimes vulnerable nature of the California coastal kelp resource, critical as habitat and food for hundreds of related species, required the development of systematic methods for accurately assessing its extent and vitality. Until 1989, the California state-wide coastal kelp resource had only been sporadically mapped and analyzed since an initial state-wide visual survey conducted in 1915 (Rigg 1915).

Intertidal species inventory and quantitative data collected on Oahu and Maui, Islands of Hawaii during 2001 - 2005 (NCEI Accession 0002447)

Two types of data sets generated by our project: species inventories and quantitative counts of key organisms. The species inventories are a compilation of data collected by Chela Zabin of the Department of Zoology of the University of Hawaii in 2001 and by Zabin with the assistance of Erin Baumgartner's 9th grade Marine Science class at the Education Laboratory School in 2003, 2004 and 2005, through a National Science Foundation Graduate Teaching Fellowship. Each site was visited only once each year: by 50 students in 2003 and by 25 students in 2004 and 2005.

Bottle data collected for chemical analysis along the coastal waters of Hawai'i as part of the Windward Community College Heeia Stream and Kaneohe Bay Water Quality Assessment Project from May 22, 2004 to March 19, 2005 (NCEI Accession 0002449)

Measurements of water quality parameters were taken by Windward Community College faculty and students at eight sites in the Heeia Stream and adjacent Kaneohe Bay waters from May 2004 through March 2005. Parameters include Combined Nitrogen, Photo Oxidized Nitrate, Photo Oxidized Nitrite, Total Nitrogen, and Total Phosphate. Data provided as MS Excel spreadsheets and redundant ASCII copies were made of each with same file name except for a CSV (Comma Separated Version) extension.
