CTD and fluorometer data were collected in the Gulf of Alaska as part of the GLobal Ocean Ecosystem dynamiCs (GLOBEC) project from 2002-03-05 to 2002-12-11 (NCEI Accession 0001062)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

CTD and fluorometer data were collected using CTD and fluorometer from R/V ALPHA HELIX in the Gulf of Alaska and Prince Williams Sound from March 5, to December 11, 2002. Data were submitted by the University Of Alaska - Fairbanks; Institute of Marine Science as part of the GLobal Ocean Ecosystem dynamiCs (GLOBEC) project.

Anthropogenic and natural stresses on coral reefs in Hawaii: a multi-decade synthesis of impact and recovery from 1973 to 2002 (NCEI Accession 0001063)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

In 2002, quantitative photo-transect surveys documenting coral community structure off six coastal sites in Hawaii were repeated to complete longterm data sets of 12 to 30 years duration. Study sites included areas fronting resort development, active and inactive sewage outfalls, and an area where there is no anthropogenic activity, but has been subjected to a variety of storm events. At the only site within a semi-enclosed embayment erosion from surrounding pineapple fields resulted in a decrease in living coral.

Continuous water quality monitoring to determine the cause of coral reef ecosystem degradation for coastal windward Oahu streams during 2002 (NCEI Accession 0001070)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Kaneohe and Waimanalo streams on the windward side of the island of Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands have been hardened to prevent flooding. The hardening process has involved elimination of the natural riparian habitat and replacement of the natural stream channel with a concrete-lined conduit having vertical walls and a broad, flat bottom. The shallow depth of the water column and the absence of shade have resulted in temperatures that average as much as 4-5oC above ambient and rise as high as 32oC during daylight hours.

Records of shallow-water marine invertebrates from French Frigate Shoals, Northwestern Hawaiian Islands with a note on nonindigenous species from NOWRAMP 2000 surveys at 39 sites and a 2002-03 survey at a single site (NCEI Accession 0001083)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

In September of 2000, the Northwest Hawaiian Islands Rapid Assessment and Monitoring Program (NOW-RAMP) Expedition surveyed French Frigate Shoals (FFS) and a number of the remaining Northwest Hawaiian Islands (NWHI). At FFS, marine surveys were conducted at 39 stations by three different Rapid Ecological Assessment teams from two separate research vessels, NOAA Ship Townsend Cromwell (11 -25 Sep 2000) and the Rapture (23- 27 Sep 2000). An additional study of the seawall at Tern Island was conducted in March 2002.

Temperature data from bucket, surface seawater intake, and XBT casts in the North/South Atlantic Ocean and other Sea areas as part of the Gulf of Mexico NOAA/NMFS Ship of Opportunity (SOOP) project from 02 February 2003 to 16 June 2003 (NCEI Accession 0001092)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Temperature data were collected using bucket, surface seawater intake, and XBT casts from several vessels in the North/South Atlantic Ocean, Philippine Sea, and North/South Pacific Ocean from 02 February 2003 to 16 June 2003. Data were submitted by the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory in Miami, Florida as part of the Gulf of Mexico NOAA/NMFS Ship of Opportunity (SOOP) project.

Temperature, salinity profiles and associated data collected in the Southern Oceans in support of the Global Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics project, 2001-04 to 2001-08 (NCEI Accession 0001097)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The overall goal of the U.S. Southern Ocean GLOBEC program is to elucidate circulation processes and their effect on sea ice formation and Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) distribution and to examine the factors that govern Antarctic krill survivorship and availability to higher trophic levels, including penguins, seals, and whales. Consequently, a primary objective of this second U.S.

Investigation of the marine communities of Midway Harbor and adjacent lagoon, Midway Atoll, Northwest Hawaiian Islands in 1998 (NCEI Accession 0001098)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

A survey of the marine communities of Midway Atoll harbor and surrounding lagoon was conducted at 12 sites from September 5 to 9, 1998. The primary focus of these surveys was the invertebrates of the fouling communities present on artificial substrates. Occurrence of reef fishes at each site was also recorded, and algae was collected and identified from four stations. A total of 444 taxa were identified (47 algae, 316 invertebrates, and 81 fishes) from all stations. Approximately 250 invertebrate and 35 algae species are considered new records for Midway Atoll.

Chlorophyll and phaeophytin data collected in the Southern Oceans in support of the Global Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics project, 2001-07 to 2001-08 (NCEI Accession 0001102)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Underway meteorological data were collected during NBP01 04 to help document the surface weather conditions encountered during the cruise and to characterize the surface forcing fields in the SO GLOBEC study area during austral winter. The N.B.Palmer (NBP) arrived near the start of the large scale physical-biological survey on 27 July 2001 (YD 208) and left the area to survey the sea ice edge to the north on 26 August 2001 (YD 238). A full suite of meteorological data was collected during this 30-day period.
