This dataset contains a high quality operational Environmental Data Record (EDR) of Aerosol Optical Thickness (AOT) from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument onboard the Suomi-NPP satellite and is produced by the NOAA Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS). The algorithm that is used to derive the VIIRS AOT is based on an algorithm originally developed for the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor but is adapted and improved upon for use by VIIRS.

This dataset contains a high quality operational Environmental Data Record (EDR) of Cloud Base Heights (CBH) from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument onboard the Suomi-NPP satellite and is produced by the NOAA Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS). CBH is defined as the height above sea level at which cloud bases occur and is derived by subtracting Cloud Optical Thickness (COT) values from Cloud Top Height (CTH) values. The algorithm also incorporates data from the Cloud Mask Intermediate Product (IP).

IST is the temperature at the ice surface including snow and melt water on the ice. The VIIRS IST EDR provides surface temperatures retrieved at 750 meter spatial resolution for snow/ice covered oceans for both day and night.

This dataset contains a high quality operational Environmental Data Record (EDR) of Land Surface Temperature (LST) from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument onboard the Suomi-NPP satellite and is produced by the NOAA Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS). LST is generally defined as how hot the surface would feel to the touch at any given location. The algorithm utilizes VIIRS brightness temperatures from the infrared spectral bands of 10-13 microns.
