This dataset contains zooplankton and ichthyoplankton abundances from bongo net tows during the third East Coast Ocean Acidification cruise (ECOA-3). The cruise took place from August 6 to September 23, 2022 aboard the NOAA Ship Ronald H. Brown. The bongo net tows were performed at subset of 73 ECOA-3 stations along the East Coast of North America. The cruise was designed to obtain a synoptic snapshot of key carbon, physical, biological and biogeochemical parameters as they relate to ocean acidification (OA) in the coastal realm.

Water temperature and depth data from Loggerhead Sea turtle (Caretta caretta) dive behavior from satellite tags in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean from 2009 to 2017 (NCEI Accession 0310450)

From 2009 to 2017, we deployed 167 satellite tags on loggerheads within the U.S. Mid-Atlantic Bight of the Northwest Atlantic Ocean. These tags collected and transmitted location, temperature and depth information and have yielded 18,790 temperature-depth profiles during the highly stratified season (01 June–04 October) for the region. This included 16,371 profiles exceeding the mixed-layer depth, and, of those, 11,591 full water column profiles reaching the ocean floor.

In this study, we analyzed the movements and dive behavior of juvenile and adult-sized loggerhead sea turtles (n = 18) that were foraging in the Mid-Atlantic Bight (MAB) as Hurricane Irene moved through the region during August and September 2011. The satellite tags deployed on these turtles transmitted location data, dive behavior, sea surface temperature (SST), and temperature-depth profiles before, during and after the hurricane. A dictionary of terms describing the variables collected during the project is also included.

Increasing amounts of atmospheric carbon dioxide from human industrial activities are causing changes in global ocean carbon chemistry ultimately resulting in a reduction in pH, a process termed ocean acidification. Studies have demonstrated adverse effects on calcifying organisms, particularly some invertebrates, corals, sea urchins, pteropods, and coccolithophores, but also on species of commercial interest such as oysters or crabs.

WATER TEMPERATURE, SALINITY, and others collected from Wire Flyer Towed Profiling Vehicle in Cape Basin and South Atlantic Ocean from 20230307 to 20230329 (NCEI Accession 0310547)

10 Wire Flyer sections collected in the Cape Basin during March of 2023. Each Wire Flyer dive profiles over a 400-m depth range between 0-800 m in the water column. Transects span between 30-120 km over a duration of 5-20 hours. Four files are associated with each Wire Flyer dive: one file with all measured quantities interpolated to the same timestamp (all_4_Hz) and one for each sensor recording data (ecopuck, optode, and CTD). The all_4_Hz.csv files are the best version of the data after processing, while the csv files for each sensor contain raw data.
