Oregon Crest-to-Coast Environmental Monitoring Transect Dataset, including climatic observations and tree growth data

The US Environmental Protection Agency - Western Ecology Division (EPA) has been monitoring above- and belowground climate data from 23 locations along an Oregon Cascade Mountain Crest-to-Coast transect since 1993. The start date for the sites varied over a several year period. The monitoring sites were located in old-growth and non old-growth coniferous forests (douglas fir, sitka spruce, alder, juniper, ponderosa pine), adjacent clear-cuts, and top of canopy locations.

The State of the Climate is a collection of periodic summaries recapping climate-related occurrences on both a global and national scale. The State of the Climate Monthly Overview - Global Snow & Ice report provides a global view of snow and ice, placing the data into a historical perspective. Because the Northern Hemisphere has the vast majority of the planet's seasonal snow cover, the report focuses on the Northern Hemisphere snow cover extent. In addition to snow cover, sea ice extents in both hemispheres are included.

This dataset contains a high quality operational Environmental Data Record (EDR) of Ice Thickness and Age from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument onboard the Suomi-NPP satellite and is produced by the NOAA Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS). This daily product provides estimates of sea and lake ice thickness and age for all pixels covered with ice. The current ice thickness and age design has the ability to estimate sea and lake ice thickness up to 3 meters under both clear and cloudy conditions at night.

This data set contains a high quality Environmental Data Record (EDR) of surface reflectance (SR) from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument onboard the Suomi-NPP satellite and is produced by the NOAA Satellite and Information Service (NESDIS). This EDR contains estimates of the surface reflectance for each VIIRS spectral band as it would have been measured at ground level as if there were no atmospheric scattering or absorption. It corrects for the effects of atmospheric gases, aerosols, and thin cirrus clouds.

The cloud height product contains an image with pixel values identifying the geopotential height at the top of a cloud layer. Additionally, this product includes data quality information that provides an assessment of the cloud height values for on-earth pixels.

This data set contains a high quality Environmental Data Record (EDR) of nighttime cloud optical and microphysical properties (NCOMP) from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument onboard the Suomi-NPP satellite and is produced by the NOAA Satellite and Information Service (NESDIS). The EDR contains Cloud Optical Depth (COD), Cloud effective Particle Size (CPS), and Liquid and Ice Water Path (LWP and IWP). Liquid and ice water path are calculated subsequently from COD and CPS. The NCOMP algorithm uses VIIRS bands M7, M15, and M16.

The retrieval algorithm is based on a legacy product originally developed for the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor but is adapted and improved upon for use by VIIRS. The aerosol mask indicates the presence of either smoke or dust.
