One-third Octave Band Sound Pressure Levels at 1 Hour Resolution Recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_02

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This record represents the one-third octave band sound pressure levels (TOLs) derived from raw passive acoustic data. TOLs were calculated by integration of sound pressure spectral density estimates of the mean-square pressure with a 1 Hz/1 second resolution over 30 one-third octave bands with the nominal center frequencies ranging from 25 to 20,000 Hz. The result is then calculated per hour as a median over no less than 1,800 1-second values for that hour and converted to decibels (dB re 1 µPa).

Dolphin Sound Production Recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_02

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This record represents dolphin whistle and moan sound production detected from raw passive acoustic data. All acoustic data were processed through Pamguard's Whistle and Moan Detector. For Hawaiin Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary and Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument recorders, a frequency range of 8-20 kHz was selected to encompass the frequency ranges bottlenose dolphins, pan-tropical spotted dolphins, and spinner dolphins. Hours with no detections were assigned as 0 presence. Hours with dolphin were assigned as 1.

Vessel Detection Events Recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_02

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This record represents the individual vessel events detected from raw passive acoustic data. Events are identified from the long-term spectral average (LTSAs) created for each site with a 5 s, 48 kHz resolution. The LTSA is analyzed in blocks where the calibrated power spectral density estimates are averaged in user-defined low, medium and high frequency bands. These data were recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_02 between December 01, 2019 and June 02, 2020.

Unknown Impulse Detection Events Recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_02

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This record represents the unknown impulses detected from raw passive acoustic data. All acoustic data were processed using Triton's Explosion Detector, which is based on a cross-correlation of the recording with a template explosion. The detector divides the recording into sequentially analyzed sections of 75 s. The detector outputs are a series of .mat files that can be evaluated using GPLReview. The original wav file was decimated to a sample rate of 12 kHz, a requirement of the algorithm. The default parameters work well for most explosive sounds.

Sound Pressure Levels for 200 to 1000 Hz at 1 Hour Resolution Recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_03

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This record represents the sound pressure levels (SPLs) derived from raw passive acoustic data. SPLs were calculated in Pamguide with a 3600 second resolution over the frequency band of 200 to1000 Hz and converted to decibels (dB re 1 µPa). These data were recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_03 between November 30, 2020 and May 07, 2021.

Broadband Sound Pressure Levels at 1 Hour Resolution Recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_03

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This record represents the broadband (BB) sound pressure levels (SPLs) derived from raw passive acoustic data. BB SPLs were calculated by integration of sound pressure spectral density estimates of the mean-square pressure with a 1 Hz/1 second resolution over the frequency band of 20 to 24,000 Hz. The result is then calculated per hour as a median over no less than 1,800 1-second values for that hour and converted to decibels (dB re 1 µPa). These data were recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_03 between November 30, 2020 and May 07, 2021.

Humpback Whale Sound Production Recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_03

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This record represents humpback whale sound production detected from raw passive acoustic data. All continuous acoustic data were divided into 30 s wav file subsamples and processed using a machine learning humpback whale detector model developed and provided by Google (GoogleAI; Matt Harvey). The presence of humpback whale song is scored by the model and, compared to a choosen threshold, was assigned a binary 0/1 designation indicating absence (0) or presence (1).

Octave Band Sound Pressure Levels at 1 Hour Resolution Recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_03

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This record represents the octave band sound pressure levels (OLs) derived from raw passive acoustic data. OLs were calculated by integration of sound pressure spectral density estimates of the mean-square pressure with a 1 Hz/1 second resolution over 10 octave bands with the center frequencies ranging from 31.5 to 16,000 Hz. The result is then calculated per hour as a median over no less than 1,800 1-second values for that hour and converted to decibels (dB re 1 Pa). These data were recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_03 between November 30, 2020 and May 07, 2021.

Sound Pressure Spectral Density at 1 Hertz and 1 Hour Resolution Recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_03

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This record represents the sound pressure spectral density (PSD) levels derived from raw passive acoustic data. The hourly PSD levels were calculated as the median of mean-square pressure amplitude (µPa^2) with a frequency resolution of 1 Hz from 20 Hz to 24,000 Hz over no less than 1,800 seconds in each hour and converted to decibels (dB re 1 µPa^2/Hz). These data were recorded at SanctSound Site HI03_03 between November 30, 2020 and May 07, 2021.
