Digital images of color-infrared photographic slides of kelp canopies taken during aerial surveys in August 2000 as part of the California Coastal Kelp Resources Project (NCEI Accession 0036513)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The dynamic and sometimes vulnerable nature of the California coastal kelp resource, critical as habitat and food for hundreds of related species, required the development of systematic methods for accurately assessing its extent and vitality. Until 1989, the California state-wide coastal kelp resource had only been sporadically mapped and analyzed since an initial state-wide visual survey conducted in 1915 (Rigg 1915).

Deep profiles of temperature, salinity, oxygen saturation, and fluorescence data from 12 select NOAA Ship Oscar Elton Sette cruises in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands 2003-2007 (NCEI Accession 0036670)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center, part of the National Marine Fisheries Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), conducted cruises in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands on NOAA Ship Oscar Elton Sette during 2003-2007. 12 select cruises are included in this batch. Finalized data include the profiles of temperature, salinity, oxygen saturation, and fluorescence. Most hydrocast stations are near atolls and islands. These are referred to as deep profiles and mostly reach to 500 m.

Maine Environmental Vulnerability Index (EVI) Atlas, Maine - 2007, maps in portable document format (NCEI Accession 0036827)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This four volume set of Environmental Vulnerability Index Maps depicts environmental resources along the coast of Maine most at risk from oil spilled into the marine or estuarine environment. The maps show biological, geological, and human use resources. It is important to note that these maps are not an exhaustive inventory of marine and estuarine species, but are a survey meant to give first responders a tool for prioritizing and targeting protection strategies.
