AFSC/NMML Location-only satellite telemetry data for gray whales in the Bering and Chukchi Sea, 2012-2013

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This dataset contains ARGOS location data (latitude and longitude in decimal format) and associated time (date and time) and location quality (as defined by Argos System, www.argos-system.org) information. Data were collected using Wildlife Computers PTT-only SPOT 5 and Archival Mk10A satellite transmitters and PTT identification is also provided with the data. Satellite transmitters were deployed on gray whales (Eschrichtius robustus) in the Chukchi Sea.

A Dataset from Bio-loggers Deployed on Harbor Seals (Phoca vitulina) in Cook Inlet, Alaska (2004-2007)

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Between 2004 and 2006 we conducted four harbor seal tagging trips in Cook Inlet during the months of October and May. In total, we captured and released 93 harbor seals, 77 of which were tagged with satellite transmitters. Each transmitter was glued to the hair on the back of the seal using durable epoxy. Fourteen of the seals were also equipped with specially developed transmitters that were attached to one of the rear flippers. Transmissions from the 91 tags resulted in 178,536 location estimates and 310,593 dive and haul-out behavior records.

Bearded Seal Distribution

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This dataset contains GIS layers that depict the known spatial distributions (i.e., ranges) of the two subspecies of bearded seals (Erignathus barbatus). It was produced as part of a U.S. Endangered Species Act status review, which included delineating the species in question and assessing its risk of extinction within the foreseeable future throughout all or a significant portion of its range. Its boundaries are based on previously published range maps and/or descriptions of the species' distribution in published or unpublished accounts.

Ringed Seal Distribution

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This dataset contains GIS layers that depict the known spatial distributions (i.e., ranges) of the five subspecies of ringed seals (Phoca hispida). All boundaries should be considered approximate.

Ribbon Seal Distribution

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This dataset contains GIS layers that depict the known spatial distributions (i.e., ranges) and reported breeding areas of ribbon seals (Histriophoca fasciata).

Spotted Seal Distribution

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

This dataset contains GIS layers that depict the known spatial distributions (i.e., ranges) and reported breeding areas of spotted seals (Phoca largha).

AFSC/RACE/MACE: Results of 2006 Pollock Acoustic-Trawl Survey Bering Sea- DY0606

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Scientists from the Alaska Fisheries Science Center’s (AFSC) Midwater Assessment and Conservation Engineering (MACE) Program conduct biennial echo integration-trawl (EIT) surveys (e.g., Honkalehto et al., 2002) along the eastern Bering Sea shelf during the summer to estimate the abundance and distribution of walleye pollock (Theragra chalcogramma). This report summarizes observed walleye pollock distribution, and provides walleye pollock biomass and abundance estimates by size and age for the EIT survey conducted in June-July 2006 within the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

AFSC/RACE/GAP/McConnaughey: Trawlex Chronic Effects-1996-Other

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The eastern Bering Sea has experienced rapid and intensive development of commercial trawl fisheries. Because of good record keeping and the relatively brief history of fishing it is possible to reconstruct the spatial and temporal patterns of exploitation. Previously unfished (UF) areas can be identified and directly compared with heavily fished (HF) areas to investigate long-term consequences for the benthos. Using this approach, macrofauna populations in a shallow (48 m average) soft-bottom area were studied during 1996.

AFSC/RACE/GAP/McConnaughey: Trawlex Chronic Effects: Side Scan Sonar Mosaic - Experimental tow in the mid-east region of CHPZ1.

Data provided by  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Side-scan sonar images were collected using a Klein 2000 system and a 100/500-kHz towed ?sh that also contained a 3.5-kHz pro?ler source. A shipboard fathometer re- cording system was inoperable during the survey. The side-scan data were recorded digitally at a 10-kHz sample rate over a swath width of 100 m. Six swaths of 100-kHz data were anamorphosed, filtered, overlaid and projected to produce a spatially correct, georeferenced image of the seafloor with pixel resolution of 40 cm.
