The State of the Climate is a collection of periodic summaries recapping climate-related occurrences on both a global and national scale. The State of the Climate Monthly Overview - Global Analysis report summarizes global observations of surface and upper-air temperature and precipitation data and places the data into historical perspective. The Global Analysis report provides monthly, seasonal, and annual climate summaries, covering the topics: Global Surface Temperature, Global precipitation, Global Sea Surface Temperature, El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO), (Lower and Mid) Tropospheric Temperatures, (Lower) Stratospheric Temperatures, Northern Hemisphere Snow Cover Extent (seasonal), and Northern Hemisphere Sea Ice Extent (seasonal). The first annual report was presented in 1997, and monthly and annual reports are available thereafter. Summary reports are often included with the final month of the period, for example, the (boreal) spring report is issued along with May. "Year-to-date" reports are also often available for months that don't end a meteorological season.
