Measuring the permittivity of Fused Silica with planar on-wafer structures up to 325 GHz

Data provided by  National Institute of Standards and Technology

Fused silica has become an interesting alternative to silicon for millimeter-wave (mmWave) applications. Unfortunately, there are few reports on the measurement of fused silica’s permittivity above 110 GHz that use electrical rather than optical methods. Given that mmWave applications use electrical circuits, additional electrical data would be useful to industry. To test the feasibility of electrical methods, we applied on-wafer techniques based on coplanar waveguide transmission lines to measure the complex permittivity of fused silica to 325 GHz.

3D shape and size data for 10084 and 14163 lunar regolith particles

Data provided by  National Institute of Standards and Technology

This database contains 3D shape and size data for 10084 (Apollo 11) and 14163 (Apollo 14) real lunar regolith particles, along with STL files for the approximately 14,000 particles studied via X-ray micro-CT and X-ray nano-CT. The database also contains similar information for the lunar regolith simulant JSC-1A but for over 100,000 particles. There are also images for all 10084 and 14163 particles examined by SEM, which are different particles out of the same material.

Effects of as-built surface with varying number of contour passes on high-cycle fatigue behavior of additively manufactured nickel alloy 718

Data provided by  National Institute of Standards and Technology

Abstract (from the manuscript): High cycle fatigue life of laser-powder bed fusion (L-PBF) parts depends on several factors; as-built surfaces, when present, are a particular concern. This work measures as-built L-PBF surfaces with X-ray computed tomography, and uses rotating beam fatigue (RBF) testing to measure high cycle fatigue life. Surfaces with different, but consistent, characteristics are achieved by build in vertical specimens and changing only the number of contour passes.

Data for figures in the AMTA 2023 conference paper titled "NIST Antenna Gain and Polarization Calibration Service Reinstatement"

Data provided by  National Institute of Standards and Technology

After a five-year renovation of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Boulder, CO, antenna measurement facility, the Antenna On-Axis Gain and Polarization Measurements Service SKU63100S was reinstated with the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM). In addition to an overhaul of the antenna facility, the process of reinstatement involved a comprehensive measurement campaign of multiple international check-standard antennas over multiple frequency bands spanning 8 GHz to 110 GHz.

Data for "Estimating Uncertainty in Robot Kinematics and Pose Measurements with Expectation-Maximization"

Data provided by  National Institute of Standards and Technology

Included here are figures and relevant data for the work "Estimating Uncertainty in Robot Kinematics and Pose Measurements with Expectation-Maximization". We present a method to validate the measurement uncertainty of a metrology instrument without a priori estimates in the context of a kinematic calibration using Expectation-Maximization methods and extend our results to characterize post-calibration pose uncertainty for the manipulator throughout a workspace.

AM Bench 2018 Residual Elastic Strain Measurements of 3D Additive Manufacturing Builds of IN625 Artifacts Using Neutron Diffraction and Synchrotron X-ray Diffraction

Data provided by  National Institute of Standards and Technology

The development of large residual elastic strains and stresses during laser powder-bed fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing is one of the most significant barriers to widespread adoption. Accurate modeling of these strains and stresses is broadly recognized as an effective tool for mitigating these challenges, but rigorous validation data are needed. This data publication includes measurement data from diffraction-based characterizations of residual elastic strains in as-built (not heat treated) artifacts manufactured as part the the 2018 Additive Manufacturing Benchmark Series (AM Bench).

Optical n(p, T_90) measurement suite 1: He, Ar, and N_2

Data provided by  National Institute of Standards and Technology

Supplemental material to the article "Optical n(p, T_90) measurement suite 1: He, Ar, and N_2" by PF Egan and Y Yang in International Journal of Thermophysics 2023.The archive file contains research data and analysis scripts as follows:* The n(p, T_90) dataset for helium. A Python script analyzes the data to produce the estimate of temperature-dependent compressibility, and reproduces Fig. 2 from the article.* The n(p, T_90) dataset for argon. A Python script analyzes the data to determine T - T_90, and reproduces Fig. 3 from the article.
