NRDA-processed CTD data from NOAA Ship THOMAS JEFFERSON in the Gulf of Mexico, Cruise 2 Leg 1, collected from 2010-06-03 to 2010-06-10, associated with the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill event (NCEI Accession 0128380)

Conductivity Temperature and Depth (CTD) measurements were collected aboard NOAA Ship Thomas Jefferson to determine physical oceanographic parameters of the water column, and in some cases used to help guide sample collection as part of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill sampling effort. Temperature, conductivity/salinity, depth, dissolved oxygen, and fluorometry data were collected onboard NOAA Ship Thomas Jefferson, Cruise 02. The final product is a series of NetCDF files containing every CTD cast that has been processed and quality checked.

Benthic and biological data in the New York Bight from 2010-06-01 to 2012-05-31 (NCEI Accession 0128996)

These data sets show the distribution of key species and habitats, such as seabirds, bathymetry, surficial sediments, deep sea corals, and oceanographic habitats. NOAA’s Biogeography Branch worked with the New York Department of State (DOS) to interpret existing ecological information and create these new data sets. New York plans to integrate this information with other ecological and human use data compiled by others (for example, The Nature Conservancy, Northeast Fisheries Science Center) and apply ecosystem-based management and plan for ocean uses.

The Pacific Reef Assessment and Monitoring Program (Pacific RAMP), established by the Coral Reef Ecosystem Division of the NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC), is tasked with documenting and understanding the status and trends of coral reef ecosystems in the U.S. Pacific. Pacific RAMP involves an interdisciplinary series of integrated ecosystem observations of coral reefs around ~ 50 islands, atolls, and shallow-water banks of the Mariana Archipelago, American Samoa, the Hawaiian Archipelago, and the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument.

Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) long-term coral reef monitoring from 2011-10-01 to 2014-09-30 (NCEI Accession 0129268)

Currently, the LTMMP has ~50 long-term monitoring sites across Saipan, Tinian, and Rota that are surveyed on a rotating biennial basis. Three main habitat types are covered: Fore reef, reef flat (lagoon), and seagrass beds (lagoon). Most sites have been selected based on their association with management concerns (runoff, sewage outfalls, urban development, etc.) and/or management actions (watershed restorations efforts, marine protected areas, etc.) and include impacted sites and relatively non-impacted reference sites.

A spatially comprehensive, meteorological data set for Mexico, the U.S., and southern Canada (NCEI Accession 0129374)

A data set of observed daily and monthly averaged precipitation, maximum and minimum temperature, gridded to a 1/16° (~6km) resolution that spans the entire country of Mexico, the conterminous U.S. (CONUS), and regions of Canada south of 53° N for the period 1950-2013. The dataset improves previous products in spatial extent, orographic precipitation adjustment over Mexico and parts of Canada, and reduction of transboundary discontinuities. The precipitation is adjusted for orographic effects using an elevation-aware 1981-2010 precipitation climatology.

Chlorophyll accessory pigments collected from NOAA Ship OSCAR ELTON SETTE in North Pacific Ocean from 2008-03-01 to 2011-04-01 (NCEI Accession 0129395)

These data represent the chlorophyll accessory pigments measured from discrete depth water samples collected in CTD-mounted 10 liter Niskin bottles as part of NOAA surveys in the central North Pacific Ocean north of Hawaii. Accessory pigments were measured post-survey at the University of Hawaii using HPLC methods.

Rays in the northern Gulf of Mexico: Aerial Survey and Satellite Telemetry 2008-2012 (NCEI Accession 0129495)

The dataset contains distribution and abundance data for rays in the Gulf of Mexico collected through aerial surveys and satellite telemetry. Aerial survey data includes the date, time, latitude and longitude where rays were observed, and number and species of rays observed during 32 surveys which took place from 2008 to 2011. Satellite telemetry data contains data for 11 cownose rays that were fitted with Smart Positioning or Temperature satellite transmitters between March and November 2011.

Mesophotic hard corals (MHC) are increasingly threatened by a growing number of anthropogenic stressors, including impacts from fishing, land-based sources of pollution, and ocean acidification. However, little is known about their geographic distributions (particularly around the Pacific islands) because it is logistically challenging and expensive to gather data in the 30 to 150 meter depth range where these organisms typically live.

Oceanographic data collected during the EX1503L1 (Tropical Exploration (Mapping I)) expedition on NOAA Ship OKEANOS EXPLORER in the North Atlantic Ocean from 2015-05-08 to 2015-05-13 (NCEI Accession 0129880)

Multibeam data was collected 24 hours a day and XBT casts were conducted at an interval defined by prevailing oceanographic conditions, not to exceed 6 hours. Additionally, EK60 single beam and sub-bottom profile data was collected 24 hours per day. Data was only collected in foreign waters where clearance was granted. Where no permit was obtained, all data collection systems were shut down in those foreign waters. All multibeam was fully processed according to standard onboard procedures.
