Fish Culture Data - Developing diets and feeding strategies for improved growth and performance of juvenile and adult sablefish
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Feed costs and time to harvest are key factors affecting the economic viability of domestic sablefish (Anoplopoma fimbria) aquaculture. Use of fast growing all-female monosex stocks dramatically reduces time to harvest, but our research to date indicates that the commercial salmon feeds typically used by industry are not optimally formulated for sablefish and there is still a high degree of potential for improved growth and feed conversion.

Water quality data - North Puget Sound Chinook salmon captive propagation
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
NOAA Fisheries is a cooperator with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Lummi, Nooksack, and Stillaguamish Tribes in a 10-year program to rebuild the South Fork Nooksack River spring Chinook and Stillaguamish River fall Chinook stocks through a captive broodstock program.

OBSOLETE: Diatom Control - Production of Macroalgae for Human Consumption in the Pacific Northwest
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
This proposal will focus on the production of fresh macroalgae in a land-based system. This type of production system avoids the regulatory and permitting issues associated with water-based systems, allows precise control of the rearing environment, reduces harvesting and management costs, and reduces nutrient discharges. While macroalgae can enhance human health, specific information is needed to ensure that this product is wholesome and safe to consume.

Hyporheic Microbes Database - Microbes in the hyporheic zone
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
The hyporheic zone (i.e., where surface & groundwater converge) is a geomorphic feature that contributes to the overall health of streams & rivers. Much of the function of the hyporheic zone depends on microbes, that modify & recycle nutrients & other biological molecules. How the hyporheic zone is altered in stream restorations is understudied.

Temperature - Impact of chiller failure on the short-term temperature variation in the incubation of salmonids
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
In salmon recovery programs it is commonly necessary to chill incubation and early rearing temperatures to match wild development times. The most common failure mode for a chiller system is failure of the chiller or circulating pumps. Following chiller failure, the water temperature can rise from 5-7 C to 10-13 C depending on the well temperatures and ambient air temperatures.

Lipophilic Toxins in WA - Clear and present danger: monitoring and management of lipophilic shellfish toxins in Washington State
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Lipophilic shellfish toxins comprise an extensive suite of compounds including those associated with the human syndromes known as diarrhetic shellfish poisoning (DSP) and azaspiracid shellfish poisoning (AZP). As a result of recent bloom events and subsequent human intoxications in Washington State (USA) due to DSP, there is a critical and urgent need for State public health officials to be able to monitor and accurately quantify harmful algal bloom (HAB) species associated with DSP and azaspiracid shellfish poisoning (AZP) and their toxins.

West Coast DA Event data - West Coast Toxic Pseudo-nitzschia bloom
Data provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Beginning in the spring of 2015 the US West Coast began to experience the most wide-spread toxic Pseudo-nitzschia bloom to date, after approximately eight years without a toxic bloom event. Some species of Pseudo-nitzschia produce the neurotoxin domoic acid, which can have deleterious effects on marine wildlife (e.g. mammals and seabirds) as well as human consumers of food items (e.g. shellfish, crabs, sardines, anchovies) that are contaminated with the toxin.
